I love the closing 13 minute track. Probably my favourite sonic youth track since the Sonic Nurse album. Interestingly the BBC review http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/6w5c states " – here with Jim O’Rourke aboard, albeit only for the closing Thème d’Alice –".

haha, i've been avoiding this thread - this year my valentine was SYR9, just in time... but had to wait til after work to hear it, cuz i wanted to spin the vinyl... i was going to complain that jim's credit wasn't on the LP version then realized the CD indeed has an extra track...(which i haven't heard yet!)
otherwise, great stuff! the recurring D tunings almost make it a companion piece of sorts to 'the eternal' in a way i feel that 'made in usa' is a companion to 'EVOL'. sound quality is phenomenal. hiland's scans don't indicate this, but the album art does indeed reveal whether or not mark plays on it...(if this is still in question)...

Really, really loving this so far (and I was a bit underwhelmed by "The Eternal", so this is very welcome).
Any info on who recorded/mixed this? I felt like Agnello's production on Rather Ripped and The Eternal put a barrier between me really digging those records but this sounds magnificent so far, just like ol' times. |

I dropped by and held it in my hands, but waiting for it to come in my multi-disc package from kung-fu with pre-orders of sister, bad moon, evol on colored vinyl... I have a problem. I spend too much money at Amoeba and record stores in general. I just went to Record Collector on Melrose a while ago. OH MY GOD, if you're into folk and/or jazz it is a valhalla. lots of classical, didn't check for the avant-classics yet. I think you said you work there, right? I've always wanted to go shopping there with a grocery-store size shopping cart. |

My French sucks, but it looks like Aaron Mullan recorded it and mixed it with the band. Mastered by John Golden? I agree, it sounds incredible, and doesn't have that boxiness that the last couple LPs did.
