You don't see anyflaws in Loveless? Bad production, tinny drum sound, boring and predictable songs, and an especially weak second half. There's like 5 really good songs on the whole thing! I have had it for.. lemme think... this is the 6th year I've owned the CD, and I really don't see the big deal with it at all.
But, y'know, to each their own! To go back to what someone said about the top 20 being a safe and predictable list... I dunno, I just think most of those records aren't very interesting. The Birthday Party and Captain Beefheart are probably the best bands in that top 20. I dunno. Just weird. I'm not shocked at all. I just think this list isn't better than the other lists that were posted before. You know what was a much better list? Batreleaser's top 500 records of all time. |

i like the second half of loveless a lot more than the first half, and i like most songs in the first half as well.
i can't be objective about that record, it's one of my favorites for emotional reasons, i guess. |

I just think a band so obsessed with sound wouldn't make the drums sound so .... tinny.
I just find it a very very hard album to listen to from beginning to end. I don't think it's a bad record by any means -- just not the # 2 best album ever. That blows my mind. |

Also, the second half as I always say is filled with some weak grungey numbers that just bring the whole record down a lot.
Never really liked "Only Shallow" either. "Loomer", "When You Sleep", "Sometimes", and "What You Want" I think are all absolutely amazing songs. But the others, I dunno. |

i like the flow of the album, like the songs that aren't "holy shit what the fuck" are more like the calm, like interludes if you will.
like i said, i can't be objective, but yeah it's an album of sound more than songs, although about half those songs are ridiculously good. |

i'll admit the list is a little boring. none of the albums aren't great or anything its just, dare i say predictable. although i am surprised at the birthday party selection. i voted for trout mask! that was my one selection that made on. still a cool survey. thanks demonrail

That's why "you made me realize" is probably the only close-to-perfect MBV release.
I just think a lot people on this board like really simple, obvious, boring things. No offense to anyone, there's nothing wrong with that at all.. but I mean, there are White Stripes fans on here for example. I mean, this shit's terrible! |

I thought Double Nickels on the Dime would be a shoe-in.

Hahaha. I dunno. I always see so much Minutemen fellatio on here. I'm really at a loss for words.
Anyway, here was my top five: 1. Tangerine Dream - Zeit 2. Neil Young - On the Beach 3. Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime 4. Can - Future Days 5. Miles Davis - In a Silent Way Don't think anyone else voted for my #1, thought #3 was a definite, two and four were maybes, and I'm not sure how much love Miles gets on here. |

That is a fucking excellent top 5 man.
Also, yeah, I thought I was alone in saying "Future Days" is my favorite Can album. |

Oh okay, well, in that case, every album is perfect then! Because if every band does what they intend to do, no matter how good or bad we percieve it as, it's a perfect album as long as they accomplish their goal!
...If it sounds like shit, it sounds like shit. Even a lot of people who love the album have said that the drums sound like shit. Also, they originally didn't want to use a tinny, lifeless, shitty drum machine but their drummer got injured.. so I'm taking a wild guess that, no, the band didn't want it to sound like that.. |

it probably would sound better if they had big boomy drums. but it's fine as it is.
actually kevin shields would probably still be in the studio working on it if they'd let him.

I spent a long time learning all the songs from OK Computer (and Kid A). I have a much stronger appreciation for it because it's a million times more intricate and exciting in that arena. I feel like I "understand" it a lot more, so it's more enjoyable to me, but it literally took my learning it to fully appreciate it. Not everyone is going to take that kind of time. Kid A is an amazing album too, but it's dominant qualities are more obvious because they're in the texture. On paper it's interesting, but nothing like OK Computer. |
