I've got to get me that Religious Knives. It's been getting plenty of good words written about it. Also, The Dead C one is really ace I think. Aside from Macoute which is a bit ponderous it is an ace record. Second to last track is epic and the short punky one is ace as well. I'd be surprised if it's not in my top 10 come the end of the year. I bought: Motor Ghost - Night Stations (tour cdr) Motor Ghost - A Gold Chain Round Her Breast (LP+3"cdr) Ben Reynolds - Basic Conciousness tape Sunburned - The Pegadrift tape Suishou No Fune - I Threw A Stone Into The Endless Depths tape I might have mentioned the last two before because I ordered them from Fusetron a few weeks ago and just got them the other day. Anyway, the Motor Ghost stuff is ace and Suishou tape is excellent x 10. |

Picked up:
A Hawk And A Hacksaw - st LP (for a fiver!..on vinyl!) Rapeman - Two Nuns and a Pack Mule LP Plus, I got the Royal Trux Singles box in the post and it was warped to fuck so I had to send it back but they said they'd give me a couple of singles to compensate for having to pay return postage. So I asked for: Royal Trux - Liar7" and I'm Ready 7" I hope to resist buying too many records in Bristol at Venn fest tomorrow but probably won't and then there's a flea market type deal on Sunday. But after that, no records for a bit. At least until I've ebayed some free software from microsoft then I can go a bit nuts. |

Any good either of them? Particularly keen on hearing your opinion on the Smegma one. I read one review and it was unfavourable but it was on a pretty indie-ish site like Drowned in Sound or something. It was standard "it's just meandering noise...anyone could do it" type criticism. |

Oh right.
That obviously isn't my opinion of Smegma or other bands of that ilk. I haven't totally fallen in love with Smegma of the stuff I have heard. A lot of stuff sort of annoys me but then there'll be one track that is amazing. The last track from Glamour Girl 1941 totally blew me away...not what I was expecting from Smegma at all. Almost sounds like the blueprint for Vibracathedral Orchestras career. |

Question for you heavy addicts to record buying. Do you ever sit down and give them the good listen that they deserve? Just curious.

actually, i though they were very shit when i first heard them with glamour girl 1941, i thought they were dumb and really annoying, then i heard nattering naybobs of negativity and the light appeared, seriously genius work going on there. now i like glamour girl too but the stand out is the last song, for sure.
my review will have to wait now that my turntable fucked up yet again, this time it doesn't turn anymore. |

when buying stuff, sure, i mostly always give it a good listen before storing them. sometimes, when downloading stuff, though, i get them to mu hard drive and sometimes leave them there without every playing them. although i don't consider myself an addict, if i was addicted, i would probably just store them away and cross them off my list. |

I don't think I'm that bad but I notice looking back through this thread I post quite a lot. My friend thinks I am fairly bad but he is way, way worse...he's got over 1000 records which is probably 5 times as many as I have at least. I don't know how people who buy more records than I do (and I know a few) give things a chance. I probably don't give some things a major chance but I also don't have any records that remain unlistened to. I know some people will buy stuff and it stays in the shrinkwrap for ages. I try my best to give things a good listen but sometimes the time isn't right to full absorb something and you can come back to it later (ie when you're broke). I had Royal Trux's self titled on cd for a few years before I really realised it was great. To my 18 year old ears it was vaguely coherent nonsense. When I revisited it a few years later it was like hearing a completely different record. |
