one thing i noted through the movie (look at the poster) was that he carries a tiny gun. 9mm short! okay for a gun of last resort/at close quarters i suppose, but had he carried something that packs more wallop he would have avoided many of the unnecessary headaches he encountered in the movie, like people running away from him. ha!

ah ha ha ha. either haven't seen or don't remember QoS, but in this movie bond keeps shooting at people and nothing happens to them. i'm like "larger caliber, longer barrel, asshole!"

but "action logic" aside (it's always absurd anyway), the choreographies were excellent (e.g. the fight w/ the sniper), and they did nice things with the character i thought. shamelessly batmanesque, but it works.

Give it a go. It's pretty good. It gets better after watching it a few times and even then isn't amazing but still worth two hours of your time. Be prepared, though, for any romantic ideas you might have about Naples to be well and truly quashed.

i once watched a documentary about some poor family from the naples slums. i forget about the rest of them but the husband was a serious cutter-- wherever the "blood built up" he'd slash his chest and had to be taken to the emergency. fucking horrible. they lived in what looked like a bombed-out slum.

Was sick yesterday. watched this in bed, cuz I am a trek nerd. not too great but neat enough as a trek history lesson.

Then I saw this one

which was cool, like a history lesson on bond. not too awesome, but cool for a fan.

I know what you mean about the 'exuding something sexual' thing and on that score I'd definitely say The Silence is a good option. There's something very kinky about that movie.

I've only seen it once but I really enjoyed Gomorrah. For every critic that thought Coppola and Scorsese glamorize the mafia in their movies, Gomarrah truly doesn't.

Yeah, really good! Although it feels a lot like a showcase for some top actors to really do their stuff. The story isn't up to much and the whole thing could've probably done with losing a half hour but for a chance to see just how good Joachim Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are, it justifies itself in spades.
