If they really want to give Affleck a challenge make him use the classic grey and blue Batman suit, enough with the all black suit.

What is sad, is that even after Wild Wild West, Will Smith is definitely the better candidate than fucking Ben Affleck. Quote:

Surprisingly this could work, the Rock is like Steven Seagal 2.0, he can sort of act, only is a much more likeable guy so you tolerate his mediocre talent. Quote:
Winner. Roll it! But really now, why couldn't they just bring back Christian Bale, that dude kind of nailed it the way Michael Keaton did.

oh, i have this to watch, and i've watched part of it but it was so good i put it aside to finish on a good long lazy day (today probably), but did you find the dvd transfer as terrible as i did? the fucking thing is cakeboxed (a letterbox inside a pillarbox, in other words, they stuck a widescreen (i think it's a 1.66) inside a 4:3, then they stuck that as a widescreen dvd, so you have black bars on top and bottom and on each side, and if you try to zoom it in to eliminate one set of bars it's all pixelated.) criterion has to get their hands on this things and reissue. yes, maybe it doesn't matter "for the story", but what i've seen so far is fucking gorgeous and deserves a lot more respect from its medium. ---- ANYWAY. watched susan seidelman's "smithereens" which was everything that the amos poe move i mentioned the otehr day wasn't-- fun, watchable, meaningful, *in color*, etx. also, great feelies soundtrack, and richard hell is awesome in it, etc., etc. found out through commentary track this was the first indie american movie in cannes (apparently cassavetes didn't make it? maybe it's bullshit). anyway, i expected absolute caca in the name of new york hype and it turned out to be great actually. well not a masterpiece but totally watchable and good, even if the story was a little, hm, what's the word, "geometric"? meaning, it followed a sort of predictable pattern so you soon knew where everything was going. still, good fun, well made low-budget movie, and the main character reminded me of the idea i have of some boardies ha ha ha ha. "a legend in her own mind" (hey, it's the movie's tagline) |

OH DAMN I CALL BULLSHIT-- the director said they were the first "indie" movie in cannes but SHADOWS won a prize there.
ah, self-hyping east villagers from the 70s! incorrigible... |

It seems like there's a lot of conflicting information about Shadows being at Cannes. Some say it won the critics award there but to my knowledge that was at Venice. I don't think it actually showed at Cannes. I just checked the Cannes website and it isn't mentioned anywhere. I may well be wrong though. Anyway, just watched The Border Strange film. The cast, theme, director, pretty much everything about this film should've made it an absolute winner. It's not bad just a bit underwhelming, in a way that no film set on the US-Mexican border in the late 70s and starring Warren Oates, Jack Nicholson and Harvey Keitel has any right to be. |

I'm telling you demonrail, just don't fuck with Jack Nicholson before 1980. You've been forewarned that it sucks!

There is a critics award but it's part of International Critics' Week, which is part of Cannes but the award is decided by critics rather than the festival's own jury. So it's not as easy to find if you're looking up the Cannes festival proper. Either way it didn't actually exist until a few years after Shadows was released. |

I found the last batman was laboured. A fresh start is welcome to this shallow entertainment franchise business.
