USA beat Japan to win gold. The women's football was great actually. Far better than the men's. A definite sense that they really wanted to be there compared with the men. Good for USA, although I was hoping it'd go to penalties just so there'd be more opportunities to look at the lovely Hope. It's her eyes.
And yes, the 18th, for sure. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/n...ures-day.html/ And how on Earth has England managed to get to 3rd in the FIFA world rankings? http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/ran...ble/index.html |

Yeah, it looks like it could be a washout FF wise this season. Shame. Looks like this season is gonna be even more fascinating than the last one.

I wonder who the surprise package will be? Im banking on West Ham defenders so ive gone with Reid, O Brien and Jaaskelaainen
Frankly i can see RVPs injury recurring and/or him being unable to gel with the United midfield (though thats pretty unlikely on its own). Ive gone with Podolski up front, Arsenal still have good attacking midfielders. Also, Lampard at 9m and Lennon at 7m are steals

RVP at MU is gonna be fascinating. Like you, I think his injury problems could well resurface but if he clicks he could easily become their new Van Nistleroy.
Spurs are in the most interesting position, though. AVB is a big risk and if they don't get off to a good start I can see the fans turning on him big style. He's still too young, for me. Not in terms of what he knows but in his general demeanor. He's sort of lucky that the Spurs dressing room seems far less potentially volatile than Chelsea's. The other team I'm really interested in is Newcastle. Pardew seems to divide people but I think he's the real deal and he's building a really strong squad. And hate him though we must, a lot of thanks for that has to go to Mike Ashley. West Ham's defence is ok but it's not as strong as you might expect from an Allardyce team. Tomkins at 4.5 isn't a bad buy, though. More generally, WH will be in a relegation battle from the beginning to the end. The only ray of real hope for me is Vaz Te and the fact that at least the dressing room seems together under Sam. But even he's not seen the way our board performs when things start going wrong. They behaved themselves last season because everything went roughly according to plan, but expect some massive Sullivan-Brady-Gold media fireworks if WH are in the bottom three come Christmas. Sullivan especially is as mad as a nail. |

Yeah, i watched the highlights and have to say I was pleased with that. Three points in the bag, etc. Although Villa do look like they could really struggle to score goals this season. And Norwich just look like a disaster.
My FF start is pretty slow, with one of my players not playing at all, which was the one thing I was really trying to avoid. I did have one goalscorer though, but overall a bit shit. Are you in a league? |

I didn't see any of the Arsenal game. Did Podolski play?
Just watching Man C v Southampton. Aguero off with what might be a long term injury. Thanks for the nod about Juve v Milan. I think I can get it. |

Giroud's a bit fucked, I think. Injury aside, Podolski's invariably gonna start ahead of him and, so far as I'm aware, there's really no other position Giroud can play. Unless they move Podolski to accommodate him, which would be ridiculous.
Oh, and did you catch Clint Dempsey on Saturday? No you didn't, because the self-obsessed little twat is effectively on strike. I've been a big fan of his, too, which makes his current twattery even more annoying. Some justice in Fulhum winning 5-0 without him but seriously, what a cunt. I'd love it if Liverpool end up showing no interest in him whatsoever. |

ha ha ha yeah i heard the news about dempsey running his mouth "in america," and liverpool not wanting him, and heard a quick interview with the fulham manager who sounded hilarious, i didn't know they had won.
not sure if you saw the italian game but neither buffon nor pirlo played, and i only found out when the game started, though it was an entertaining 3-2 anyway, and robinho was really great-- though he played for the losing side he was my favorite player of the game--looks like he might have a great year. |

I didn't see the Juve game but was kept updated by the radio. I'm never sure what I think about Robinho. I don't doubt his quality but was always disappointed seeing him play for either Man City or Brazil. Perhaps he just needs the right team.
Dempsey's the last player I'd have expected to do something like that. Part of his appeal (at least for me) was his utter professionalism, both on and off the pitch. He was a player who just seemed to keep his head down and get on with it. It'll be a shame if he ends up tarnishing his reputation over this, just as neutrals were really beginning to like him. And I like Fulhum's manager Martin Jol. I don't know much about him but he's always struck me as being one of the more likable guys in football management (as well as being a very good manager, obviously). |

Very surprised to see Clint Dempsey do that yeah. When you think about it, i cant think of a country that's has as high a proportion of its players become popular and respected in the Premier League as the USA. Its almost like they appreciate it more than players from countries where football is everything. And as for Martin Jol.... Ah the glory days. Man I miss Martin Jol. One fucking lasagne away from shifting Arsenal...
