This happenes every decade, and it annoys me every time. I do not know why people are so stupid, and why the folks in the media get this wrong every time.
a decade is ten years. NO ONE STARTS COUNTING AT ZERO! yet, everytime a year ending in 9 is finishing up we get "best of the decade" lists and all sorts of stupid end of decade crap. fucking moron people. 2010 is the last year of the first decade of the 2000's. simple as that. people are such morons. The next decade does not start until 2011. rant over.

Hmm, okay, it should technically be "best of the decade" but "best of the 00's" (since 2010 is in the 10s). It's hardly something I'd be angry with though

2010 is not in the teens,
a decade is ten years. 2010 is the end of the "aughts." 2020 is the end of the teens, etc. it is what it is.

I have to admit I always think of the zero year as the start of the decade and the 9 year as the end. For example, how can you say 1970 was part of the 60s when there's no 60s in the number? Eh? It's not 196070.

Nope, 2010 is in the 10s but in the 201th decade. A decade is from year ***1 to year **10; the label "*0s", though, is used to encircle years ***0 to ***9. It basically defines the years ending in that or that.
Man this is getting technical |

But the label "x0's" is not used to count years since year 1, only to refer to years ending in x0's. |

The difference is basically the same in between "The 20th century" and "The years 1900"
The 20th century ended December 31st, 2000 The years 1900 ended December 31st, 1999 |

So, was 1970 part of the 1960s? No. I refuse to believe it.

OK, I'm willing to agree to this. For tight-ass accountant nerd types, the decade can end on the zero year. For the rest of us normal people, it goes from 0 to 9.
