I say you spend the $2,000 on booze. It'll make your current PC seem that much more enthralling if you drink while surfing the web.

If you get the right booze and drink enough of it, none of that matters. In fact, NOTHING WILL MATTER.

I'm afraid if I got drunk near you, I'd wake up with a sore bottom.
ps: I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the rig I listed, just waiting to see if verme stops by and knows of something better. better than a sore bottom, at least. |

You'd also wake up feeling congested. But that'd just be because the volume was significant enough that it came out your nose.

Wow, quite a few pennies.
I hope all that technogibberish is worth the tag. |

it's actually about $300 cheaper than anywhere else and same price as a lesser-Dell flavored rig.
if I'm going to buy a laptop, might as well get one that will last a few years. I have one that allows me to work/post but nothing else. |

all sarcasm off, why not an apple? ..... not about their image, aesthetics or anything, if not for their operating system alone? That's what it's all about. I know it's cool to knock Apple for all their "know what they're doing and making superior products" foolishness, But if you're spending over 1k ?
I've seen the anti-puppet tirade's against Apple in this forum but I assure you, there is nothing more conformed than being a slave to Gate's Window's systems. I'm not talking smack.... I own them both, numerous systems of both, and nothing would make me happier than see people happy to go with Macs. Three of my closest friends and two family members have switched to Mac's recently and when I ask them so what do you think about the difference going from your PC to..." they interrupt me saying, "Man, FUCK PC's" sorry, but if you spend more than 1k on a PC opposed to a Mac, you loose either way! The high proce range is the only logical reason to go PC either way. Unless you're strictly "Gaming" on a PC, that's about the only "pro" the have over Macs. I just bought my son (who's a PC gamer) a new gaming PC. He loves it (for gaming) but he still runs to our Macs to do everything else and will be the first to to say Windows is a POS. I feel stupid even arguing it, but I sense that a lot of people knock Macs because they see them as a fad... like you're paying for image and presentation.... but that's so... so miscued. And really, to those, it's as simple as, they don't know what they're missing. How many people do you know that have bought a Mac and then gone back to PC's.... right, NONE! That really is saying something. When my son needs help w/ his PC's, I can't go 2-3 minutes without feeling like kicking the POS Windows systems across the room. they're just ignorantly, dated minded operating systems created by a lab full of square minded nerds.

That said, though, I am currently enjoying Portal now that Steam is available on Mac and Apple fetishism, which shouldn't be assumed of all mac users, is blisteringly obnoxious. |

I've witnessed "Apple Fetishism" just by walking into Apple stores... but really, if I let others enthusiasm (or over enthusiasm) affect me or my outlook in any way.... well that'd be just sad. Who the fuck cares! It's like you can't say you enjoy your system because people around you are overzealous, fuck-off and just enjoy yourself! BTW, my son was telling me Steam was doing Macs now... I thought it was just a rumor. Still, I've found Macs to not run games well at all... even their better G5 Power and Pro systems. I'll pass.... Steam is about the most fucked up of all fucked up concepts anyways in regards to controlling their product. I hate Steam. Love some of their titles they've obtained, but hate them.

I didn't see your reference to "gaming" (unless you edited after).... but if you're all about gaming.... yeah, might as well be a PC. I never enjoyed gaming on a laptop, so unless you know that's what you like, I'd recommend a desktop. I just got a Dell XPS Studio gaming system (1400 on dell) locally on craigslists, practically new (purchased 2 weeks ago) for $795. There's a lot to be considered for adequate graphics cards, their size and processors and then the cooling ergonomics built around them.... better found in desktops.

One word: mactax. They are SO much more expensive than a comp PC. And you really only get style for your money.
Back on topic, I had an Asus from a couple of years ago. It just seemed kind of clunky. The Asus software sucked. And, it died before a two year older Acer laptop. I'm not sure I'd buy another. Asus motherboards, on the other hand, are the only ones I buy.

i gave it a look. not really an expert, maybe nicfit?
that seems to be a best buy exclusive model and the magic price comes from the lack of asus warranty. the other versions (x1, a1, a2) start at $300 more and you get the same cpu, same gfx processor same screen but 1920x1080, 8gb ram and a secondary 500gb hdd. BUT... yeah, i'd say get it, save those $300 and get a nice ssd... the higher resolution on the other models seems nice in theory, but on a screen that size probably not that great of a difference. that said, i'm with amerikangod. |

that's my thought. why spend $300 for 250mb when I could get a TB for $100? 2gb of RAM doesn't mean all that much with 32bit Windows either that said...I just had an iMac. I don't have anything against them, other than the price (for what I want) and the fact that I'd have to run Bootcamp (which seems to defeat the purpose). I'd could build a desktop (easy) but I require portability at this point in my life (and the next forseeable while), so laptop will have to be the way to go.. after doing serious shopping around, this "Best Buy model" really is the "best buy". right...it's off to Northridge for me today. ok next question: any idea where I can get a dickies hoodie (like the one I have but without holes), in summer, in Los Angeles? omg special order from Wallmart.com...really? guess so. |

The only reason anyone would buy a Mac, is the same reason you use Westone UM1 IEMs instead of creative. They both get the job done; but one is really high end; and comes with a great consumer support plan...
