SY Tech Appreciation Thread

their guitar/instrument techs are good people. i've only ever met eric, but they seem to do a pretty good job on tour & what not, so let's give them a little appreciation. here's to ya!

yes it must be a hard job tuning all those geetahs and stuff....dunno what to say more...

much apprectiation, if it wasn't for them, there would be no way SY could function and tour

the only one i have met and talked to is Jeremy Lemos, and he is just an awesome person, and his band is quite awesome too

Aaron Mullen should get a lot of credit for his work. You can hear the way he effects the SY both on all latest releases and reissues and on the live shows.

Some of us met him at Thurston's ATP and he was very nice. He gave Awesome Color the best sound that rocked their show.

You all should check out Tall Firs latest album which is really good. I have started a thread about it here:

now that's what i cal appreciation! although i saw awesome color open up for SY on the RR tour and i don't think any amount of knob twiddling could make them sound good.

Hi all. Words of apreciation? Mmmm... hard to find some... but I think they must be proud for being near to one of the most influential band in rock history! I would if I be in their shoes. Great work dudes! I heared them on the soundcheck here in Argentina, in the 2000. Great, i thought it was Sonic Youth already.

Well, it seems like a certain sound is just ingrained in you guys. It’s not so much a specific influence as it is an undefinable time and a place. How did you start working for Sonic Youth?
Aaron Mullan: I met Thurston just when he was moving to western Massachusetts and I was moving out of there and our paths kind of crossed. So I was up there a little bit and I was working at this club Tonic in New York. All the members of Sonic Youth would come through Tonic and do their solo stuff. I moved to New York with my friend (drummer Chris Corsano) and he was working at Tonic and he hired me as the first sound guy there. My wife was working some for Steve Shelly at his record label, Smells Like Records, and then the idea came up that they needed someone at the studio and I remember being at home for Christmas in 1999 and thinking, ‘I would like to work for Sonic Youth at their studio.’ So I called up Steve and he was into it. And the next thing I know, there I was in the studio. And then it turned into me touring with them. I’ve done their live sound since 2002. I think I’ve seen them play 400 times.
