I haven't rented one in years. We've been practicing in my bedroom for nearly a year, so this will be a nice change.
Our brother band Somatic Fuzz decided to take a bigger room, so they asked us if we'd like to share it. It's a pretty decent size at $360 a month ($60 each). We painted and laid the carpet and got everything situated within 48 hours. It looks like a freakin' kids room! And it has windows, a huge bonus. It's in the midway area of St. Paul (Snelling and University, next to Big V's and by the Turf Club, for those geographically familiar with the Twin Cities). This is Somatic Fuzz's side. They have lots more gear than us. Our side Post pics of where you practice if you got 'em. |

Are there any other bands/artists that have studios there in the building?

Man. I practice in my room with my bed, desk, and drumset taking up the entire floorspace. When people come over we got amps going out into the hallway. When we're done I have to take down my drumset because my room gets so claustraphobic. I had a friend that slept on the floor every night to make room for all his stuff. That room looks like heaven.

60 bucks a month? sounds like a cheap apartment if a member decided to get cheeky enough to sleep there.

As far as living there, It would be pretty miserable - though I have considered doing that in the past. The bathroom is disgusting (I'd sooner take a dump in the back alley in broad daylight than sit on the toilet - poor ladies!) and there's barely any insulation so the alt rock cover band practicing Hash Pipe over and over on the first floor (we're on the third) sound like they're next door (that happened last night). |

Right, I just meant if it was band/artist friendly.

Yeah, almost the whole building is band practice rooms, then there's a music store (not too good) and another business in the front of the building. |

Cool cool.....I've been playing in my friends living room for the past few months. It sucks because I have to set my drums up every time we play and then when we are done playing, I have to take them down and stash them away behind his couch. He has a little daughter and he doesn't want her to poke her eye out on something

I'll take some pix soon and post 'em. Like the green, CHOUT!
Our studio is in a building with no other bands in it (SWEET), and used to be a vault. It's at the back of the building and has 2-foot thick concrete walls and a big ol' vault door, so it doesn't bother the neighbors. We still have a little construction to finish in the control room, but it's huge. 2300 square feet. The front part is for art studios, the back vault section for music. |

That sounds like a nice setup, but I imagined you practiced in some mini castle with a moat, and rotting carcasses of sacrificed goats strewn about. What area is your practice space in? |

good, its a nice place, now get to work and practice there, dont be a lazy bastard like me, i have to be physically beaten with a stick out the door and poked with a cattle prod to put my guitar on and told "stand there and fuckin sing these songs" then after the first hash break (usually about 1 and a half hours after we start) i'm looking for a million excuses to go home again..."aww i broke a string....aww my fingers are sore....awww i've a sore throat....awww i have to be up early in the morning...awww the dog ate it" any excuse i can get away with you'll hear it. i am the laziest fucker in my band and i would not have it any other way

It's in Northeast. Actually, there is a castle-like structure in back. This place used to be involved in some kind of light munitions manufacture during WWII (our vault is where they kept plans and such), and there are still guard towers in back by the railroad tracks! I hope this preserves our TRVE KVLT status. |

You practice in a pseudo-castle, live in the dentist office from hell, work in a warehouse filled with records...what kind of car do you drive?

I'm not officially in any bands or anything. I play with a few and we practice at tons of different spaces. Usually just living rooms, the Warehouse(local christian venue), Harvest Lutheran church really late at night, or in someone's backyard.
