I recently purchased all of the SYRs with only hearing Goodbye 20th Century prior. ( I know that I'm really fucking late in buying them.) To put it lightly I am in love with all of them. I just can't pick a favorite. 1, 2 and 3 are kind of in a trilogy to me. They all buildup to longer tracks and darker static. Goodbye... Is amazing and the 2 discs makes it a monument by itself. Edges is crazy good. SYR5 might be my favorite becuz I love Kim. and of course Stan Brakhage 6 is great. Text of Light............ But anyways, what are the favorites out there?

I'm glad you like 5. I'm surprised people don't like it. Right when I heard Steve come in on drums in anagrama I grasped the SYR music like a matador and red cloth. I think it's amazing stuff and it triggers very wierd images in my mind. All are great. I haven't listened to all of 6 though. I know i like it already though.

4's the best, in my opinion, and the rest, while interesting, are a little inconsequential. But 4 is the one that really holds up as an integrated album, full of great ideas.

Oh wait, I 'member seeing 5 in the record store. I was a little put off it cuz it's not Sonic Youth per se, but just Kim with two non-SY people. Meh...

I like SYR6 so much that I made a poll about it, which you can visit by clicking on this petty bit of orange text.
SYR6 is quite magnificent.

Three and Four for me! beautiful, ugly and ultimately satisfying - the SYRs have given us some of the best music SY have produced in their career! Which reminds me WE WANT MORE SYRs!
