I heard the 'on acid' thing twice today as a way of describing something that's a bit weird. I don't know why but I just hate it when people say that.
You know the thing I'm talking about: someone says something like "David Lynch. He's like Frank Capra ... on acid!" or "James Ellroy. He's like Mickey Spillaine ... on acid!" or one of the ones I heard today: "the Aphex Twin. He's like Kraftwerk ..." you get the picturte. The annoying thing now is that, the more I think about it writing this post, the more "... on acid" comparisons I keep coming up with. This is madness. |

Odd, odd, odd!!! I was thinking about that term a few days ago, as well as a number of lazy journalistic expressions used to describe music way too often.

You mean like the word 'seminal' to describe an album that's more than ten years old and didn't chart? |

I remember Lee and Herring did a pretty funny piss take of the overuse of the "like x...on acid" thing prompted by, I think, someone saying that Lee Evans was like Norman Wisdom...on acid.

These neologisms can go on forever:
Avril Lavinge - Like Toni Basil...on acid.

I like using this one, we used to use it on customers where I used to work... "That guy looks like blank if instead of doing movies/music/etc. he did crack instead."
