The Fall To Release New Album And Two Books; TMT Scores Exclusive Fake Excerpt
Mark E. Smith's prolificacy through the years has been simply bananas, no? (And I'm not just talking about PEEL Sessions!!!) With all the excitement and controversy still bubbling from their most recent tour, The Fall have decided to release a new album in early 2007, entitled Reformation. No tracklist or details about the content yet, but it's rumored that Ben Folds will play piano on none of the tracks. Also planned are two Fall-related books; the first is the autobiographical Renegade: The Gospel According To Mark E. Smith, which may have actual spittle-and-beer stains on select pages, while the second is Perverted By Language: Fiction Inspired By The Fall, which is a collection of fiction inspired by The Fall. Though the latter book won't be out until June 28, TMT has acquired a fake advance copy and is pleased to offer a short excerpt: The Man Whose Head Expanded |

Wow. An actual autobiography. I don't think anyone should tell him, but I'm quite pleased that he's 'mellowing out' in later age. This is, of course, a relative concept, but still.
Hip Priest (or anyone else for that matter), have you read this? I've not seen it in any shops, is it any good? I thoroughly enjoyed M. Middles' biography, 'twere fabola.

doesnt seem to me like he's mellowing out, there was an interview somewhere with the guitarist who quit recently (along with all the rest of them) and it seemed like Mark e smith was just getting worse and worse. Whether this is a bad thing for the music who knows. But that book of his is going to be interesting reading. Especially seeing as it'll cover such a long timespan.

Saw them a few months back. Mark seemed to be back on the ball to a fair degree, the band was great (whether they're the band on the album or not remains to be seen) and the new songs they played were deadly.
Looking forward to it. |

Brilliant. A Merle Haggard cover. I'm pleased with that. That cover is following the current Fall-cover trend of being utterly awful.

I can only imagine the autobiography will be a bunch of manipulative bullshit. Of course I'll be in line to buy one as soon as it comes out. MES has ensured The Fall has become everything he used to hate, MES and a bunch of pickup musicians. And I betcha the musicians that played on the tune that is being used for a car commercial aren't getting paid.
I also can't get used to hearing Cat Power doing the background music for the blood diamond commercial. |

Haven't Motorhead covered White Line Fever too? Now there's a link I'd never have imagined. I look forward to the interview where a journalist gets MES and Lemmy in a room together for a chat.

Hearing Blindness on that ad sort of takes the good out the song a little bit for me...oh well.

Isn't it Scout Niblett, not Cat Power, that does the diamond advert?
I saw The Fall in September, and MES did seem more on the ball than he has done recently. I suppose the fact most of the band left meant he had to sharpen up a bit to keep the Fall going ( see also 1998, when he sacked the entire band) |

Well thats a mind bendingly crap front cover. The youtube videos of the new band seem pretty good, less aggressive and foceful than the people who left this year (I wish they hadnt, they made 2 REALLY good albums). But i suspect the new albums gonna be not as good as the last two. |
