Okay so I've talked about this guy in the dubstep thread but he's so incredibly talented that he deserves one of his own. So yeah, his album Love Is A Liability which he released last year has been really blowing my mind for two days. Completely fascinating music, calling up urban mental pictures. Melancholic dubstep. Chill yet tense and stressful. Echoes of vocals drowning in layers of nostalgic sounds. Really, really incredible. Check this album right now. I can't think of something bad to say about it, every track seems just as perfect as any other. Also, the Bravery EP he released a few months ago is fucking incredible as well. This dude has mad talent |

Bumping this cause I'm listening to the Bravey EP once more and it's really incredible. Anyone interested in electronic music should check this guy out. Really.

Seconded. Listen to Love Is A Liability if you like good electronic music. He has really great beats.

I'm 'legally purchasing' this music from the internet as we speak.

Bit moogy for my liking. Seems alright, might give it another few listens. Which is one of the benefits of 'legally acquired' material. 'The Shape has Come' reminded me a lot of one of Diesel's tracks actually, but less filthy/ sexy.

thanks again for this syrfox.
I think it's funny that you and I have had the biggest disagreements and most arguments on this board and yet you've probably reccomended me the best music of anyone on this board, this year. Glad we can still be friends after all the bickering Mr. Fox, I am looking for electronic music that's really fucking dark. Any suggestions? Also, can I reccomend Odan - Charlbury Gardens to you? I LOVE that album, one of my favorite unknown electro albums. |

Ahah, you're welcome! (didn't see this message before because of Dour festival) . I'm glad to see you love all those artists...
For fucking dark electronic music... hmm, that's tough for me. I know many melancholic electronic artists but they're rather grey than dark. Perhaps something like Emptyset could fit ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFpJK52wqys ). I think I already recommended you Babe Rainbow, but he's definitely super dark ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB1glzJ0C6M ), dubbed "doomstep" on last.fm. Maybe some Lorn could fit, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=filuvrkgtDc . I'll search some more through my library ... I'll check out that Odan album, never heard about it. Thanks! |

Well, I think also we both have a very particular sense of humor. I think people on here know me pretty well, but people on other boards have gotten upset when I joke around about music. I mean, I'll listen to drone and be like "man, this is some badass dude-holding-down-one-key-on-a-keyboard-for-30-minutes shit!" and people will get pissed. Even though I love the music, I don't take it seriously; hell, I promote Scissor Shock with things like "music to give you a migraine!"
Thanks for the reccomendations, Babe Rainbow is badass. BTW, Mr. Fox, I really think you'd dig the new Scissor Shock. And trust me, I'd never reccomend that stuff to you before, but this new album is something else. Since I was listening to dubstep for the whole recordng process, there's parts that are rhythmically very bizarre (loud snares) and grimey, and there's a lot of little acid techno parts, mixed in with some xylophones and some downright melodic keyboard lines and pop parts. It sounds really broken but complex, I actually think it'd be right up your alley. Even Glice likes it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J8FEPZCU It's only 41mb/32 minutes, so it's nothing too taxing to take in, I'm really interested in your opinion on it, it's a lot more electronic than other releases while still feeling really human. If nothing else, the bass guitar parts sound weird as hell (it's just a regular electric guitar, tuned down 2 1/2 steps!) The title track took 2 years to write! Glad you like Odan, he has another little ep too. Gives away all his shit for free. Some of the weirdest acid bass stuff. Really cool. Just great, really addictive. I also HIGHLY reccomend reshape - dance paradox, probably my favorite electronic album of the past 2 years, I know I mention it a lot, but it's SO addictive, almost ikonika-addictive. Have you heard Ikonilka's "Smuck" or "Space Ugly"? Those are pretty rare songs (er, they're not on Hyperdub at least!). I could up 'em for you if you need em. She's also done some badass remixes. BTW, do you know if Mono/Poly's AMAZING track "Beatles Bitch" has a Beatles sample? I was wondering if that "OHHH OHHH OHHH" thing was from a Beatles song. One more thing, I made a mix, and since I've enjoyed your mixes in the past, I figured I'd post this, it's gotten a really good reaction on other boards, I know you know half the songs -- hell, you got me into a 4th of the groups on here -- but I think the ones you don't know, you'd dig. Omni Trio's "Kinetic" for example is probably in my top 10 elctronic songs ever. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CLWX607H I think I'm going to listen to FaltyDL right now! |

Have you already listened to Starkey, iTAL tEK and Boxcutter? If not, you really should. Starkey blasted the fuck out of Dour Festival on Saturday, it sounded like aquatic ear drug or something. Totally mad. I still haven't recovered from that dubstep night ahah. |

Nope, never heard any of those! Will check em out.
And yeah, Grizzly Bear sucks, probably are making Warp tons of money though. Themselves rule, never heard that latest album, was it good? I'll upload those tracks right now. |

Themselves' new album really rules! It's got some killer tracks (Oversleeping and Gangster Of Disbelief are fucking huge). It's only 5€, but I'm so fucking lazy after Dour Festival and I'd have to go alone, which is a bummer... I'll see.
I think you're really gonna enjoy Boxcutter. He's on the more experimental side of dubstep, with absolutely stunning production and super interesting beats. iTAL tEK's first album you should love if you're looking for dark electronic music ... It's super bassey. His new one sounds more "pastel"ish, but it's great too. Starkey has got one of the best dubstep/wonky tracks ever, Gutter Music. He can be quite unequal, but he's got enough hits to claim being great. His new album has got a lot of hip hop featurings so you might not like it as much but I find it really good. OK Luv is killer (the instrumental album version is better than the version with Badness out there..) |

Sweet, I got some d/l'ing on the ol' Seek as we speak.
I saw Lightning Bolt last night, that was fucking insane. LIARS are playing tonight, actually! Haha! I kinda want to go, as I actually kinda dig Sisterworld now (I think their next album will be great, honestly, I think they're trying to mature their songwriting a bit), but it's like $15 and an hour away, and after last night... well... I don't know, I'm pretty exhausted... too much body odor last night, also, haha. here's the ikonika track http://www.mediafire.com/?dfr3c9wbn2rlb6r = smuck http://www.mediafire.com/?abgwwcmo5de20x9 = we could be ikons http://www.mediafire.com/?bjqb3vfg2sd3h0q = space ugly hopefully those links work, if not lemme know |

Just checked Psychic Existentialism. I had checked some of your stuff a while ago and was not too into it, but I quite enjoyed this one indeed. It actually reminded me a lot of some hauntology stuff at some points, especially that Roj album from last year, though there's much more going on in your music. Yeah, quite enjoyed it. For some reason I can't download your mix right now ... I think my cache's got some weird bug. Will try again some more
