Sorry for stating the obvious but:
It's hardly funny, it just relies on you to recognise the references they make in order to laugh. How many jokes can you think of that AREN'T flashbacks and are relevant to the plot? "Oh, there was that one joke that.....wait........ummmmm......how ab- oh no, my bad. Well surely ther- OOH!!!! Wait, that was a different show....hmmmmm" |

I don't mind watching Family Guy at all though yes, it is poorly written.

it entertains me. it's not supposed to be deep or intricately planned humour or anything, get over it.
the best moment ever was when picasso was rearranging his painting and goes "and look! it's diane wiest." south park, which is also entirely reference based humour, is boring as fuck.

it sucks, seasons one and two were ok then they lost the plot. south park is getting lame too, like that aids episode ws the first one that i felt crossed the line in offensiveness.

south park destroys family guy, it's fatuous to even compare them, there was even a south park episode that was all about how crap family guy is. |

When I noticed that the Peter versus giant chicken fight was a running joke, I realized that Family Guy sucks.

If you were to watch every episode.. say from seasons 3 - 8, you'd agree with me that nothing else will ever come close to it. Since then it may have fallen in decline, but I've been watching a few of the new episodes and they're getting better. I think the problem with The Simspons now is the stories are far too outlandish.

I like me some family guy from time to time, but honestly I think it's a bit of a culture thing, seeing references to stuff most italians don't even know and "getting" them is kinda rewarding to me. |

Ahem... "The sun will rise tomorrow" This is stating the obvious. What you're doing my friend from up north, is stating an opinion. I have four DVDs from that show, including the 'Blue Harvest' Star Wars special so I can watch them again and again. And then I realised that it's less funny the second time. And even less so the third time. So I wouldn't say that Family Guy 'blows', but like South Park - most episodes are disposable - you see 'em once, laugh (maybe) and that's it. It's not like the Simpsons (or classic Warner Bros.) where there's laughs to be had even after numerous viewings. This has to do with the writing and the characters (how many classic secondary and even tertiary characters do the Simpsons have?) South Park has secondary characters like Timmy, Butters and Mr. Slave who I think are pretty funny - but that show does shit me sometimes because I think Matt Stone and Trey Whatizname are getting lazy. Seth MacFarlane is just a fuckwit. This I will admit with no remorse. I also have the complete works of Ren&Stimpy (except for the stuff from Spike TV - can't find it) and these DVDs I will cherish forever. You Eeediots! Also got into some of the Adult Swim stuff - only seen bits of Robot Chicken but Sealab 2021 and Aqua Teen Hunger Force were cool (IMO - see?) |

well except one bit in an episode recently where mr garrison runs up to the kids and goes "boys, have you seen my penis?" the simpsons is really awful since about the 8th season though, i'm sure we can all agree on that

"Remember that time I..." NOT FUNNY. When I speak to people about Family Guy, they usually say its better than the Simpsons, as the Simpsons is a 'kids show' or for family audiences. However, I think that because the Simpsons are geared towards a family audience it makes the jokes so much more subtle, veiled and clever. For example, I was watching the episode yesturday where Lisa visits the creator of Malibu Stacey, and delivers the line "Yeah, I'd hate it if my family's name was used to brand cheap merchandise". You have to think about it for a while, but that is an extremely clever and intelligent joke, that you might not get the first time. Thats why the Simpsons are timeless, and Family Guy isn't...
