That Barbican show sounds super cool. Anyone knows who the other players will be? Will you be taping it Stu? Would love to hear the result of it.

Sounds positively megatonic indeed! A Branca/Chatham-esque army with 12-string weapons! Quote:
I vote to add Roger McGuinn, Peter Buck and Johnny Marr to the stew of most likely more avant-degenerate 12-string players. Quote:

It was brilliant! Started with a nice acoustic set. 12 identical guitars with Thurston leading the way conducting to the other 11 performers. The electric set was my favourite though and it was funny seeing 11 other people copying Thurston's trademark screwdriver and chisel actions and finishing with a feedback session! Beautiful projections and sound. Also interesting seeing James Sedwards semi conducting to the 4 other people on his half of the stage. |

I don't care if you liked it. The important question here is: did you tape it?

Saturday June 2nd 14:00
http://www.stokenewingtonliteraryfes...t-on-my-floor/ Life comes beautifully full circle as Thurston Moore interviews Dave Haslam about his book Sonic Youth Slept on My Floor. Groundbreaking Hacienda DJ and acclaimed music writer Dave Haslam revisits some of the most interesting corners of contemporary culture through his glorious new memoir. He documents encounters with Tony Wilson, Terry Hall, Viv Albertine, Tracey Thorn, Roisin Murphy, John Lydon and Johnny Marr. Morrissey comes to tea and Sonic Youth sleep on his floor. |

Rock & roll to me is everything. … I see it as a way of life, as a sort of an intellectual liberalism of being in the world.” —Thurston Moore He cofounded Sonic Youth, altering the course of rock-and-roll by transforming punk, drone, electronic, free jazz, and art rock into thought experiments and spiritual epiphanies. During this celebration, exclusive to the Walker, Thurston Moore curates two distinct evenings of music reflecting his expansive past and current influences. In collaboration with Nels Cline, Anne Waldman, James Sedwards, Steve Shelley, and more to be announced, Moore revives art-rock mashups and reveals rock-and-roll as inner bliss. |
