I'm not interested in 9/11 . . . it's too small, history overwhelms it. The history of the world is like: He kills me, I kill him, only with different cosmetics and different castings. So in 2001, some fanatics killed some Americans, and now some Americans are killing some Iraqis. And in my childhood, some Nazis killed Jews. And now, some Jewish people and some Palestinians are killing each other. Political questions, if you go back thousands of years, are ephemeral, not important. History is the same thing over and over again.

Whatever. I don't accept that. that's a copout. So much for trying to evolve humanity past the point of senselessy killing one another. I know of course, that will never happen, but at least on a global, country vs country warfare level we should have hope that it could.
Look at Iraq and the rest of the midddle east now. Bush and the war architects seriously underestimated human intelligence, will, and determination. It's 2006 for Gods sakes! People know what's up with war, corrupt politics, and the like by now...and are getting smarter. Yet there are the ones that try anyway, the ends justify the means etc. That's the idea that has to be squashed. There will never be peace, b/c people have grown to smart for that shit. Human beings have evolved to the point where they are staring themselves down and must evolve past war. ah, nevermind..haha

He basically said "history will just repeat itself, so I don't care what happens in the world," but he said it so beautifully, that it doesn't sound as stupid as it actually is. So what if history is doomed to repeat its cycle? It's still our jobs, as humans, to ease the severity of it, or at the very least, comfort those affected by it.

Actually, the quote was in response to the question of whether he would be interested in using 9/11 in a film.
But if you read the quote, he is not saying that he doesn't care about human suffering. He is saying he doesn't stand for making human suffering (9/11) into a political tool, because it is not a unique event.
