Devastated. 71 isn't all that bad though. I'd like to live to 71. That man's liver must have been damn near heroic, all things considered. |

Is he really? I've not yet been convinced that he's not a simulacrum, created by Big Heroin to sell more records (and drugs).

My friend informed me that the Ultimate-Guitar forum also had a thread about Lou Reed's passing. Apparently most the UGers only remembered Reed from Lulu, and those that knew of his body of work were not fans, in true UG dad rock loving fashion.

the term dad rock doesn't mean much if 70+ year old rock artists aren't old man friendly enough

You have a point, but I merely meant music in the vein of Van Halen and Boston. They also seem to have a Meshugga fetish, so perhaps I should have said, "in true UG classic rock and chuggery loving fashion."

That is only because Mick Jagger's sheer swag alone is dragging Keith to life. If Mick loses it, Keith's days are numbered. As to Uncle Lou's passing. Damn

the only common ground between van halen and meshuggah i can see is guitar shred obsession, which certainly makes sense for ultimate guitar... but the boston i've heard isn't much more guitary than lou so hmm. there has to be a middle ground between dad rock and teeny bopper vibes, but i can't really figure out what it is |

Chuggery was invented by VU on Sister Ray, surely.

The only thing good from Lou Reed's passing is that he can become the patron Saint of rock and roll curmudgeons. I think his first miracle was becoming one of the first indie-to-stars-to-indie hero anti-heroes from the horribly fleeced 1960s bands. Second miracle was helping turn David Bowie into something of a competent musician. Third was just being himself. That qualifies, I'm sure, and Pope Francis is surely the kind to be on board with this..
