Any fans here? Is this place too cool for them? Is that band name too ridiculous?
I fuckin' love these guys. IMHO there isn't a dud in the 5 albums released in 2017, and most of them are very good.

I’m sure a few of the users here would say something snarky if this post corresponded with their scheduled SYG troll time visits to talk about what is and isn’t pure art or whatever, but fuck them.
I’m not saying that because I’m particularly big on KG&TLW, but they’re certainly not at all bad. I feel like what they’re doing is very similar to what (Thee) Oh Sees we’re doing a few years back. Namely, hammering out garage-psych-punk records at such a feverish pace that there’s bound to be a few that gather considerable praise. I actually love Thee Oh Sees, but *they* release too much music for me, and they’ve never come close to five full-length albums in a year. I’ve only heard one or two of KG’s 2017 albums. What I heard was fun, and fine, and much more interesting than what Ty Segall’s been up to this decade. What’s the best of the five? I’ll make an effort to listen to it carefully. |

That's a tough question, because it depends what kind of mood I'm in. I have a soft spot for Murder Of The Universe. I know many fans dislike that one, with the spoken word stuff as the dominating feature. But it doesn't bother me. I go into it knowing what it is. It's a ridiculous and fun record. But it's also powerful.

Can't add anything constructively to this thread so please ignore me I only know that they exist, I've seen the name pop by a few times somewhere somehow I'll give them a try tomorrow. Is it Sunday music?

Sketches Of Brunswick East might qualify as Sunday music.

Late to the party, but I do like them. I really like Flying Microtonal Banana, very much dig the quasi-Turkish microtonal division of the fretboard and the melodic and harmonic results it yeilds. I'm unaware of any other overtly rock albums to employ such a tuning scheme. Maybe some of the Turkish artists like Erkin Koray, Bunalim, etc... but I never read much about their specific techniques. We just ordered a new splatter yellow/blue pressing after it had been out of print for a while. The band name is kind of stupid, but a SY fan should consider the lyrics to Hyperstation before casting stones from the balcony of our glass house. I've only heard two other King Gizz records which I did like too, but not as much as FMB. Their videos are insane and entertaining.

Yeah man. King Gizzard released five full-length albums in 2017. A very GBV kind of move, but socically they’re not very similar. And I’m not sure but I don’t think GBV ever releases five. I think three or four was the max output for a 12-month span, and that was fairly recently. Could be wrong though. |

Most definitely heard of them, even just locally, but never bothered.

When i read about them i thought they sounded like they might be good, but i when i checked them out i thought they sounded like a band with their dicks cut off.
Also, The Oh Sees are not that similar and a much better band. |

Oh Sees are a little bit similar, at least from what I have heard of KG. In a general way... garage psych-rocky stuff, cartoonish aesthetic, lots and lots of albums. But they are much better, yes. And I really don’t know much about KG, so I could be totally wrong about the similarity. I only brought up Thee Oh Sees because I got a little burned out by their pace of releasing new work — 2 albums in a year, sometimes... never less than one and an EP — so KG is just confounding to me. Five albums in a year. Why? |

I'd be all over the quantity vs quality thing if those 5 Gizz albums sucked, but imho, every one of them is at least quite good, and a couple of them are really great.
I've read about Thee Oh Sees similarities. I don't know that band so I can't comment, but Gizz has released so many different kinds of albums. Anyway....Nonagon Infinity kicks my ass!!

You need to listen to Thee Oh Sees “Floating Coffin” album from 2013. Dank shit. A lot of their albums — most — are dank shit, but that one is... ultradank? I don’t think dank is a thing anymore but whatever. |

literally thee oh sees for pre-teens......oh sees are at least incredibly good at what they do, king gizzard can never transcend pastiche because they're so totally apathetic towards everything.

The Oh Sees album "Orc" that came out last year delivered the kind of laser focused arse kickings that they have been dishing out for years, the whole thing was up on youtube last time i looked so...

Yeah, I kinda passed that one by when it came out, but I went back to it recently and it just roundly kicks ass. Just like Mutilator Defeated at Last, Drop, Floating Coffin, A Weird Exits/An Odd Entrances, etc., etc. Yeah, I don’t know how similar Oh Sees are to King Gizzard because again I haven’t spent much time with KG, but I’ve listened to a couple of albums and never heard anything as pummeling as, say, “Night Crawler.” |

Well fuck me. 5 albums in 2017. Fuck all in 2018. I'm convinced that we will see their Forever Changes in 2019.

Yeah, I’m with the majority here. They’re ok, but I’d much rather hear what Mr Dwyer is up to these days, or Kawabata-san.

I know I'm the only one here who really loves these guys, so, for what it is worth....new music coming soon!! The band hinted as much.
I'm fucking excited, ok?
