Great contemporary songwriters, or Elton John for the latte set?
I'm confused. |

Yeah, of the three, he is by FAR the most irritating. Joan as Police Woman i've grown to absolutely LOVE - despite not getting her at all the first couple of times I heard her. Antony I admire greatly, but find him quite difficult to endure in large doses.

Antony I like a lot, Rufus is great big slice of queeny ham (with some fabulous spicy sauce on the side), and I 've not heard Joan As Police Woman yet...

It'd be a lot easier just to shoot you and put you out of your misery. |

Danny, you're more gay than Joanna Newsom's harp.

I'm really not sure what you'd think of it. My first impression was that she sounded like Erykah Badu, of all people, and vocally I still think there is a bit of a similarity. Musically though I think she's excellent - although with the first few listens it came across as being rather too slick, almost like coffee house jazz. And needless to say, Antony always crops up somewhere on her stuff to provide a guest vocal or two. |

Haven't heard Antony or Joan, but Rufus has one helluva voice. I really can't say I like too much of his own work, though his covers are usually very good.

I just got the new album. It's good but, like her first one, I'm expecting it to improve with further listens. I'm seeing her on Thursday (in concert, not in person!) and I imagine she'll showcase a lot of the new stuff - which'll giving me a fresh perspective on it. I really can't wait. Avril Lavigne and Joan as Police Woman in the same month. Somebody up there must really like me right now! |

I'm wondering if I should get a Joanna Newsom album. I've not heard anything but reckon I'd probably quite like it, seeing how she's often mentioned in the same breath as these.
My ticket connection fucked up on the JAPW gig. Well pissed off. |

DON'T DO IT!
Braver men have lost their minds listening to that harp-playing banshee. Ok... to be fair, art is subjective... and Rufus Wainwright and Joan as PW do nothing for me (I do not think they are bad at all... I just have no interest based upon what I have heard). So I might be the wrong person to give advice. I just remember being scarred by Newsom after friends insisted I would love her. Antony and the Johnsons really are fantastic though. I did not find his voice appealing... AT FIRST... but not only has he grown on me, I really do respect and enjoy his music. I cannot say the same for Newsom. |
