I've never listened to Porcupine Tree, I always hear them talked up by Dream Theatre fans so I assumed it wasnt worth the effort.

i hate dream theatre but like porcupine theatre, strangely enough they were recommended to me by a dream theatre fan though, but he also liked PiL, so maybe he wasn't your typical dream theatre fan. |

Italian prog bands that are worth checking out:
Bella Band Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso Goblin Campo Di Marte Delirium Nomadi PFM ( personally I find they're the best of the lot, when they were good they were THAT good) Elektriktus (especially for fans of Ash Ra Tempel and the like) I Giganti |

YES, i love yes!
i also love crimson, virus, ruins, magma, voivod, coroner; thinking plague are good. porcupine tree i find just ok, sometimes they are pretty tedious, sometimes they are good. most is not excellent. my favorite is when a band is prog-based but operates in a different style as oppossed of being all out prog. |

yeah, those. i dig brutal prog too. alechuatsitas, yowie, dazzling killmen, ruins applies, as does all the the bands mentioned by everyneurotic besides crimson. i also consider things like meshuggah, cryptopsy, early DEP, coalesce, and shit like that to be progressive in their own little ways as all. tool is prog influenced and they were amazing at one point. and krautrock is often prog, so can, faust, neu, and amon duul.
