I want to get some software so that I can convert my vinyl to CD via my PC. Does anyone have any recommendations please?
If it's relevant, I'm operating Windows XP.

get audacity, which is free. jack your turntable to the line-in port of your sound card (you might need a preamp or a stereo output). record.
you end up w/ a nice WAV file, the quality of which depends mostly on your soundcard, as this is the most common bottleneck. and that's that! |

audacity is generally a noisy program even with a good pre. the good pre is necessary but then i would use digital performer with the waves xclick and xcrackle plugins or cubase with the same thing

didn't sound like the request was for expert or pricey programs
if that was the case a good soundcard would do a lot more than any software |

if that was the case a good soundcard would do a lot more to combat noise than any software. just go with audacity-- it's free! |

yeah cubase is likely to perform better than audacity
but it costs like a billion dollars. and im all about free software free as in speech and free as in beer.

if you know where to look you can get dp and cubase for free, i was recommending the best thing for the job, try torrents kick ass or audiofarm or edonkey i used audacity for a short while and it is not a very good programme at all. take your time and look for the good stuff don't rush and end up with an average result, just because it is pro software doesn't mean it is hard to use or that you cannot find it. also protools has a free version that gives you 8channels of audio also a pro software but available. nothing wrong with giving good advice, next time i wont worry about it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll look into that a bit more this evening.

oooh! we're talking WAREZ!! that sure is good advice i don't use warez for a myriad reason, a major one is that i don't want the fbi kicking down my door. another is that i don't want trojans and shit bundled in my software. another is that the tech support sucks-- hah hah. well i use my software for business so it has to be legit. i don't need lawsuits. so is it better to get advanced warez or basic freeware? i'm going to opt for #2. no doubt cubase is a superior program, but the annoyances & risks involved in getting it are not worth it for me. others may think differently. now that protools free, on the other hand, i just found out about it today & will definitely check it out. i work with avid & was thinking of buying protools as well-- looks good. EDIT: ps- sorry im a fucking rat for doing this but i figured you would have posted in the refusal of ripped ripped reviews or one of those. Quote:
couldn't you say the same about geeks who labor to creat good software? hah hah hah i love double standards. seriously, i do, im not a puritan. |
