Ooops. I mean "film a Hicks biopic." With Russell Crowe.
I realize there are more pressing issues in the world, but this news made me livid. Even if you feel Hicks is overrated, surly you can see that only a shitty movie can result from this plan. That Ron Howard would even consider this project demonstrates his failure to grasp Hick's material, Hick's dareIsay "message." Only one question seems pertinent: Would Hicks himself approve? OBVIOUSLY not. But he'd probably get a funny bit out of it. http://www.google.com/search?q=ron+howard+bill+hicks&rls=com.microsoft:e n-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7HPIC Get up. Get involved. Our boys didn't die on the beaches of Normandy for this shit. |

Kind of curious about how it would turn out. If shitty then expectations met, I say. Bill Hicks smoked himself to death. Fuck'm.

Is smoking related to pancreatic cancer? I dunno. Just asking. Hm. Maybe we DO need a movie.

Sorry, I thought he died of lung cancer.
In any case, a shit movie isn't going to tarnish his good name, or whatever. If anything, it would make it all the more painfully relevant. Hopefully Hicks would also have a healthy rant about people protecting his legacy in death on the internet. |

Yeah I just find it hilarious how he talked about how he can do what he wants to his body and then he dies at 32..

Ha! Fair enough. Okay, at my most cool-headed, I'll admit that nothing can tarnish his work if it's good enough. It bothers me that a slick commercial film about a guy who ranted against slick commercialism in general will make a very rich Ron Howard even richer. But at the end of the day, the movie won't change a single word on any Hicks recording. I just wish Howard would use his wealth and producing power to get the fucking Arrested Development movie off the ground! |

I like the Dustin Hoffman movie on Lenny Bruce. Certainly Hicks was more critical of popular culture while Lenny was more concerned with obscenity law but I don't think it's entirely impossible for Ron Howard to do Hicks justice. And Russell Crowe, I must say, has won me over to his less epic roles with American Gangster.
Usually it is the weirdest casting that interests me most, like Heath Ledger as the Joker. |
