Caipirinha
1 lime Half a lemon 2 ounces of cachaça 2 tablespoons of sugar Ice cubes/crushed ice is better Cut the lime and lemon into pieces and place them in a glass. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and crush the pieces with a pestle. Add the cachaça and crushed ice. Stir it a little and vuala! It's delicious and potent! If you can't find cachaça (made from sugarcane), use vodka or rum.

That looks like quite the drink. Maybe too sweet though? Heh, I think I'll order one tonight at the bar. "A what?" |

It's a brazilian drink and believe me, you need that sugar to get rid of the bitter taste.
Not a drink for diabetics by the way.

Surely if you use rum instead of cachaca then it becomes a Mohito? Anyway, Pimms and Lemonade is the drink for any discerning English gent. |

That sounds spanish meaning wet. If you use vodka it's a caipiroshka. If you use white rum, then it's a caipiríssima. That's what I've been told. This thread was supposed to be about sharing ideas on mixed drinks. Any other mind bending refreshments, peoples?

Ruined? I've used that drink to pep up many parties that were going stale because of the beer.

Well, let me just say that my version of this drink includes a lot more alcohol, and since the sugar masks the bite, its very easy to have 4 or 5 and not really realize it. At that point the best thing to do is put down all musical equipment and throw a steak on the grille. |

That's so true about the sugar. In Brazil it's normal to drink caipirinha with your lunch and they serve large drinks. Can you imagine getting back to work in the afternoon, totally smashed on that stuff. ...

Oh, I'm quite aware of the brazilian tradition (my homeland) of caipirinha's (which literally translates into ''little redneck girl''). The last time I visited, I went to lunch with my cousins while they were working, and we had like 5 rounds of draft and some appetizers. We were hanging out for about an hour and then they were like..well let's order a meal now and have some caipirinhas...I was blown away...their lunch break was over two hours, what a great job. Oh and thanks for spreading the evol. |

'Simply the Breast'
A refreshing margarita with a chicken breast wedged onto the side of the glass. Classy. |
