Not sure I agree with all of what the writer's saying here, but in the main it's a good article, especially for the NME which seems to be almost willfully trying to avoid any credibility these days.

Thanks, demonrail666. I'm not going waste good money on buying NME, so I shall have to go into WH Smith and read that.

You mean take my camera into the newsagents and photograph the magazines? They'll have me in the funny farm before you can say... erm... before you can say... erm... erm... anything.
Besides, I got in terrible trouble when I tried doing that with the porno mags. |

It's not a terribly exciting article.

I kind of agree but the NME has been running this classic album thing for a while now and has covered some interesting stuff. Neu's first album for example. You rarely get to read about that anywhere.

So was I, but it's true. So far the ones I can remember over the last few weeks are Sister, Neu #1 and Lou Reed's Berlin. Not bad for a music paper as awful as the NME now is.

It is a terrible article, it basically says that Sonic Youth made nothing but noise (no songs no nothing) before sister came out, and that before that came out their fan base consisted of about 3 people.

They also claim Thurston provides vocals on Pipeline/Kill Time and that this is Sonic Youth's fourth album (although that can depend on whether you class 'Sonic Youth' as an album or EP).
And all this about 'proper songs' as opposed to noise... Have they not listened to Evol?

Sure, but at least they're trying. If it means that someone who was thinking of picking up the new Klaxons album gets Sister instead then who cares about a few errors here and there. |

Sonic youth? Neu? I thought NME didn't touch good music with a bargepole.

I find it pretty ridiculous for the nme to print this. with so many mistakes all you can be sure of is its just a pathetic attempt to look like anything other than the rag they are.
