Some of this stuff is pretty cool and has juicy tidbits of info which could be beneficial to archive in the gear guide and the discography:
This xylophone was used on the Studio take for the track "Kissability" on the album Daydream Nation http://cgi.ebay.com/Sonic-Youth-Rhythm-Band-Inc-Xylophone-/220799921757?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3368b3 6e5d This glockenspiel was purchased up by Steve while in Michigan cutting demos with Ron Asheton for the project that became the Wylde Rattz http://cgi.ebay.com/Sonic-Youth-Glockenspiel-/220799918227?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3368b3 6093 This custom made passive mixer was built on tour by Dave Rat (www.ratsound.com) out of a microphone case for Kim to use on stage in the early 90s. Rat said “I made it out of parts from my workbox and a mic case. Its a 4 in 1 out passive mixer. Super simple and yet it sure made it easy to get the 8 track player and toys in the mix. Ha! Since it is passive, the frequency response is like 0hz to 100k flat! I also remember modifying the 8-track, toys and TV and putting guitar jacks on them so they could be plugged in rather than mic'ed. Rock on! " http://cgi.ebay.com/Sonic-Youth-Custom-Made-Mixer-/220799907873?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3368b3 3821 This AceTone Drum Machine (circa 70's? I believe Acetone became Roland) was a Sonic Youth studio staple for years until it was replaced. Description from the Sonic Youth studio: “We just picked up a museum-quality one and so are ready to get rid of this one, as it is a bit noisy.” I actually have one of these that was a neato garage sale purchase a few years back. its actually a drum machine that is to run in conjunction with a hammond organ and has a sheet music stand for top mounting onto the organ, very old skool beats but cool as hell has some minimal "filtering" capability and can be operated using with a simple footswitch. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sonic-Youth-Rhythm-Ace-Drum-Machine-/220799906512?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3368b3 32d0 Ibanez Roadstar II used by Sonic Youth 1986-1988. It later appeared in the video for the song 'Titanium Exposé'. More information can be found at: http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/eq/gtr14.html. The guitar has only cosmetic damage and is in working condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sonic-Youth-Ibanez-Roadstar-II-/220799903001?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3368b3 2519 also there a bunch of guitar hardshell cases currently being auctioned...

thanks for the pointers. I always wondered what a Glockenspiel was.

Funny, I never heard the xylophone on Kissability til I read about that auction, then I randomly listened to the album and it's clear as day!

Hmm, I'll give that honour to the guitar most likely used on EVOL...
![]() The mixer is very interesting though, is this what they were using to amplify things like Kim's toy beatbox ("Tokyo Eye"), Thurston weird keyboard ("Swimsuit Issue", much tween-song beat noise), the TV always playing during the Goo tour (did they take this on tour with them? I've always meant to ask, or maybe I already have...they seem to resort to channel surfing at many Goo era shows)? What would the 8-track be for? (Or is not implied that was used live?)
