this includes a touristy cruise through downtown, lunch somewhere in the neighborhood of Fisherman's Wharf (though not at the wharf, I am not that much a tourist about things), a stroll around the Palace of Fine Arts and the Exploratorium, a stroll around the beach @ Presidio on the Golden Gate Bridge side, and some spliffs in some nice places along the way..
any suggestions? This is the simplest and most satisfying day trip I could plan, but I am open to any suggestions of things I ABSOLUTELY should include in this trip, either along this route, or perhaps another route entirely?

I'm not a master of the muni system, but if it's a nice day you should make a stop on upper haight/golden gate park and take a stroll, ESPECIALLY since you plan on lighting up. you'll find some great secluded and serene spots over there. The food in the fisherman's wharf area isn't all that great, just stay away from the waterfront tourist traps. If you check out upper haight, go to Amoeba if you've never been to one.
Have you been to SF before? |

my fondest memory of San Franfrisco is of the mole people living in the dug-out understories of a demolished hotel.
you MUST see the mole people!! |

yes, I'm only going down to the wharf as a point of reference, not to check it out, I've seen it, its nothing impressive, too touristy for my tastes.. I'm purposely not going to Amoeba, there is one here in Los Angeles and I don't have the money to spend on records while on vacation.. I was thinking of adding the Haight to my itinerary as that 28 bus also goes through there..

If you don't mind have great beer, check out Toronado in Lower Haight.
