Yeah, there's a Trump thread, and a Biden thread, and a Coronavirus Thread, and they intersect.
But how about a thread specifically for the Election? I think it is a useful idea. Predictions. Results. SCOTUS challenges. Civil War. How about we direct all that Election and Aftermath stuff to this thread? Anyone want to make predictions on results?

Dammit, I wanted to make this
Biden to be looking very likely to win on the night, but with enough doubt that the shit goes on for weeks.

Yeah, I predict a Biden win. The Experiment is over. It failed.
I also predict that Florida and Texas will do what they do: stay red. Therefore the count will be something close to 300 Biden - 238 Trump. Popular vote will be 51.5% Biden - 48.5% Trump. I will spend the rest of my years wondering how the election could be this close. But the real story will be what Trump does in the ensuing hours/days/weeks. He won't concede. He'll tweet and talk endlessly about fraud/rigged/etc. There will be no transfer between Trump and Biden. I predict that finally, some key people in the GOP will stand up to Trump. Pence will do the transfer duties.

I also predict a narrow Senate win for Dems.
(Maybe the drugs are hitting me now.)

Oh, come ON, another thread? Skuj, you know I dig you, but unless the mods (and I don't mean those riding on Vespas) were to consolidate all the other shit here, this won't be a megathread, just the fourth thread dedicated in good part to president Apocalypse Fuckface.
The damage is done now, though, so I guess I'm subscribed.

May be an interesting day tomorrow since I need to stay sober due to being on 24/7 call for my dayjob for a couple weeks.

Dude....this one is The Election Thread. The Trumpy Thread and The Biden Thread and The Virus Thread don't really lend themselves to focussing on this topic in a coherent manner.

At this point, nothing does. This one's bound to go off the rails anyway when I start posting about how awesome Merritt Wever is. Which she is!

***Looks up Merritt Wever***
Actually, I'll be away from internet for 5 days after today. But 5 days from now the dust may not have settled. In fact, Tornado Apocalypse Fuckface will be churning it up. I'm sure that this particular topic will have legs for quite a while.

Yeah, it might be very wishful thinking to predict The Triple Crown for Dems. The thought of 4 more years of Obstructionism and McConnel makes me ill.

I won't make any specific predictions. But the popular vote does seem very much in favor of Biden. The electoral college just might be as well, though I'm saying this with the utmost caution.
As for the shit-ton of other hurdles that are needed to be overcome for him to actually enter the White House in January - that shit's anyone's guess and it could get very ugly. Anyway, as someone looking in from the outside, I wish the states the best. Too many people have had to endure the dire consequences of a broken system. Within all this adversity there's also been a lot of solidarity - people looking out for each other, taking to the streets to fight for a better future and to make their voices heard. Those are sentiments that are seen and heard around the world. It's been a tough 4 years for a lot of people, this much is evident. You deserve better than this. Let's hope the results tomorrow will be a step in a better direction. I think no one has any illusions that all of the woes are gonna magically disappear with someone else in office, but I'd imagine some respite from this bonkers hellscape that were the last few years would be welcome. You need a good breather. And fingers crossed that you'll get it. The world is watching with bated breath. |

tomorrow is just when the election ends. people have been voting for weeks now.
what begins tomorrow (i’ll venture a prediction) is a long knife fight with republicans trying to disenfranchise people and throw out votes. this not so much a “prediction” of unexpected things, but just their usual modus operandi. actually, scratch that, the knife fight has been ongoing. and one way or another the damage to this country has already been perpetrated. here’s to uncle joe being able to heal some of that, in whatever way may be available to him... if it’s available. anyway, expect more dirty tricks from the repukes. and a good day to read the stoics, who didn’t always practiced what they preached, but still wrote well about dealing with adversity and the unexpected... |

I don't envy Biden. How the fuck do you even begin the process of Untrumping America? And what is the national debt today?
Yeah, it's quite amazing that 100,000,000 have voted early. Wasn't the total vote 130,000,000 last time? Questions: Do all of the early votes get counted tomorrow? Only mail-ins are counted later? What % of all votes is mail-ins?

Yeah. Just accounting for the mail in votes, it's like nearly 70% of the total from the last election....which is pretty nuts. I'm just hoping it's bringing the right people out to vote. Anyway....this week is going to be an interesting one.

I'll be staying up to watch the results come in. Can't see it being decided tonight but we'll see. With the result I'm going for hoping for the best, expecting the worst. The good thing will be if Trump wins then the £50 bet I put on him will help soothe the annoyance for a few hours.
Basically we're all watching Alien Vs Predator and whoever wins we lose.

I wonder how long it will take before the official final result will be announced. Just read this article but doesn't give much clearance:
US Election 2020: When will we get a result and could it be contested? (bummer I can't read this article, NYT is asking me for paid subscription) Bush-Gore took something like 37 days, I assume this election to take longer with all the mailed-in votes and there will be several recounts requested. I guess first results will be lob-sided for Trump from the physical votes and Biden will benefit from the mail votes, hopefully it will be enough

Gonna be interesting to see if the rumours that Trump will declare victory before all the results are in are true. He's not going to wait around.
