I lent my crappy yamaha pacifica guitar to a friend recently and while he had it, his flat was broken into and it was stolen so I'm now looking for a replacement. I'm not in a band, I'm not very good at guitar so I'm just looking for a basic one. I don't know that much about basic guitars apart from the pacifica and that squiers seem popular and I really don't want a stagg/westfield/other rip off brand so can anyone recommend some companies/models or does anyone have a squier and what do they think?

Squiers are alright. I was just using mine. It works. They're pretty sturdy too.

Can't you get Vox's really cheap in the UK? That's what I'd do.
Don't give up on knock off brands completely. Pre-1980's knock offs can be really nice and have a lot of character. I'd never buy a strat knock off though. I hate strats. |

all the squires are good cheap models of all the fender range and they play pretty nice for cheap guitars. same with the epiphones and the gibson range, they all play pretty well for the reduced price that they are.

Never heard of them. I don't like new guitars, they have no soul.

staggs are much better than pacificas/squires
the other guitarist in my band had a pacifica for a few weeks fell apart in his hands, if you dont want a stagg dont get one but theyre alot better than other budget guitars, |

I guess, but I want a guitar that has a personality right when I pick it up. New guitars don't have that. It is tough to explain.
