Harper's Magazine
not music, but oh well |
Hmm. Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I think the wire looks pretty universally liked so I'll check for it next time I get a chance. Woooo
|
i cancelled my subscription to every music magazine except the wire. rolling stone doesn't cover anyone that i like and what they do cover they do a shit job of.
|
"Writing about music is like dancing about architecture."
Worst quote ever and nobody knows who said it: http://www.pacifier.com/~ascott/they/tamildaa.htm |
You know who used to rule? AP.
My Bloody Valentine cover stories and Polvo tabs... yep. Now.. give me a fucking break. I've sent those dudes a few emails: "Hey, I know you have to put shitty bands on your cover to sell magazines, but is it possible you could make a REAL 'Alternative' press? You know, a magazine that isn't just Blender/Spin/Rolling Stone 2?" ... you know, I emailed em shit like that. And one dude, Jason Pettigrew, one of the editors, emailed me back, and said "It's all business man. Sorry." Hah. |
obviously they're out to make money, not to appeal to a demographic which would be implied in the title of their magazine. it's just the times. back in the 90s alternative music was the thing, and the direction music (and thus the magazine) has gone in has shifted radically.

Right.
But man, like it or not, spin at one point covered tolerable music too... and they had kevin federline on their cover last year. KEVIN FEDERLINE. |
im sure im gonna get shit for this, but here it goes : Vice
|
I think what you're after, zedius, is a zine of some sort. Rare these days.
Nearly all magazines you will find something you think is shit. I used to not mind Kerrang, it had some cool stuff in it (yeah and it's always had some shit in it too) but I looked at it last year sometime at the newsagents, and it was full of dicks with all the same haircuts and all wearing eyeliner and colourful tattoos where they've just asked for "Sleeves please" and struggling for vision through there hair. It did have a lengthy article on the Bronx and another on the Mars Volta, but I couldn't bare to purchase the rest of the filthy shit. Oh well, such is life, I guess. |

http://www.rock-a-rolla.com/ ![]() This magizine looks really cool. But, it's ran out of the U.S. and subscriptions are waaaay too much |
I read DRUM! Magazine.....it's basically porn for drummers.
Vinnie Paul's on the cover next month! |
This Rock-a-Rolla looks really really good.
|
^
Rock-A-Rolla is good, especially the reviews. But as Finding Nobody says, it's bloody expensive to subscribe if you're outside the UK. Fortunately for me, I'm not outside the UK. |
I donīt read any music magazines but i have this stupid addiction:
Every month i go to the bookstore selling the german Spex magazine and steal the cd that comes with it. This month there is a new Fall track on the compilation. |
grrrrr
