Are there any music magazines that are good? My girlfriend always gets blender, and I tried to like it, but it just seems like shit. Like it's got the ocdcasional alright thing, and then pages and pages about shit like beyonce and arctic monkeys.
But I would really like to be exposed to new awesome things, and I might even like to do that in a convenient magazine form. I want a magazine that will introduce me to giant drag and not tell me a damn thing about my chemical romance or panic at the disco. Is there a magazine that knows the difference?

THere is Paste, although it's the kind of magazine that won't surprize you to have a cover story of The Shins. Not that I don't like The Shins, it would just be nice if there was one mag that had a little bitof everything.
Correction: A little bit of everything already preapproved as good by me.

I used to read Blender, because my sis had a subscription. There are a few cool recurring articles but it seems to be tabloidesque which I didn't like.
The Big Take Over is good. |

I don't have any subscriptions anymore. But I still buy UNCUT quite often (I like the free CD).
I always get the new Nude mag, sometimes I buy Bizarre, The Wire, PlanB, PIMP, various tattoo mags... Oh, I've got to remember to pick up the current issue of Mojo (which I never buy, but this issue's all about The Stooges and has a free CD compiled by Iggy, so....) |

Yeah, I like Mojo just for their cd's, cause even crap bands can make a good list of old stuff sometimes, even if it's just because they are wanting to impress

For noise, industrial and metal of an experimental persuasion, I recommend Rock-a-Rolla, but I suspect that the only way to get it outside the UK would be a subcription.
Purely a personal opinion, but Plan B annoys the tits off me. Definitely a mag for the myspace generation. EDIT - Bollocks. I meant to post something far more momentous for my 5000th post. |

Heh, true on some cases. I buy a lot of different music mags... from Metal magazines to Classical ones, but for the indie rock reccommended music stuffs - The Wire and Mojo do it for me. |

the wire is the best
magnet is good for the average "indie" stuff bpm if you like the whole club/electronica thing big takeover really, anything but spin and blender and AP are good choices.

my favs are:
big takeover the wire terrorizer mojo uncut's content/writing level has gone down considerably over the years. signal to noise is above average, nothing to get too excited about but btter than whatever you are planning on wasting your money on. |
