I dunno, I get mixed signals from her; two other guys working there think we're flirting...did I make the right decision there? Should I get involved with her even if she's 7 years younger than me? Have any of you been in similar situtations?

Gosh, just do her already.

acousticrock87 08.29.2006 12:36 AM

I don't generally go for girls that aren't within a couple years of my age, older or younger. But that's just a preference. I wouldn't rush into it. If you really start to like her, just be cautious about it. Make sure you know what you're getting into with her. 17 year olds are generally hard to date even when you're 17.

HaydenAsche 08.29.2006 10:19 AM

The guy I have a thing for is 21 and I'm 16. I really really like him, though.

wax 08.29.2006 10:26 AM

why are you even humouring daycare?
leave him to sulk.

anyway.
i like girls a bit younger than me, maybe in their early 20's/ but my girlfriends always end up older.
my last girlfriend was 6 years older than me (but looked young) and the one before was 8 years older than me.
its not intentional.

gmku 08.29.2006 10:28 AM

Who can tell where the heart leads us? It really depends on the people involved--maturity levels, trust, all that.

you're just saying that so you can lech on to much younger chicks

gmku 08.29.2006 10:37 AM

Mmm, no. My wife might have a problem with that. Besides, she IS a younger chick...four years younger than me.

Toilet & Bowels 08.29.2006 10:42 AM

pfff. marriage never stopped anyone.

Everyneurotic 08.29.2006 10:44 AM

one girl i'm pursuing is a year older than me, the other is like 4 or 5 years younger.

gmku 08.29.2006 10:45 AM

Marriage never stopped anyone?

Right. Well, I don't know about anyone esle. It's certainly stopped me. But I'm also sure the alimony payments put a damper on things for many a philandering fool.

stop being a pussy, leave your wife & kids and shack up with which ever of your students you can get lucky with.

gmku 08.29.2006 10:53 AM

I know you're just trying to be funny... but I don't get it.

Toilet & Bowels 08.29.2006 10:57 AM

i'm not trying to be funny, it's the subtext i read in most of your posts.

gmku 08.29.2006 11:22 AM

Oh give me a break. Subtext.

Do I have a case for slander here???

HaydenAsche 08.29.2006 11:24 AM

No. For it to be slander Toilet and Bowels would have to know without a doubt that you don't like your students and lie about it.

gmku 08.29.2006 11:25 AM

I don't even have students. So his insinuation is completely baseless. Which makes it untrue (a lie) right there.

HaydenAsche 08.29.2006 11:28 AM

But he doesn't KNOW it's a lie. He has to know different than he's saying.

gmku 08.29.2006 11:30 AM

I'm not so sure about that. I think it can be any false statement (whether the speaker knows it or not) that's intended to damage another's reputation.

I have some law prof friends here on campus. I'll check with them.

Pookie 08.29.2006 11:30 AM

He doesn't have to know it's false. It's the intent that's the issue; is he INTENDING harm by making the statement. And that's the difficult thing to prove.

Edit: posted the same time as you gmku. I've a friend who's a county court judge and he's bored me with the explanation a couple of times.

gmku 08.29.2006 11:32 AM

Doesn't exactly seem like the most well-intentioned remark I've had anyone make about me.

Pookie 08.29.2006 11:35 AM

Wouldn't it be libel anyway if it's written?

gmku 08.29.2006 11:37 AM

Maybe. Is online "chat room" stuff considered writing, though?

gmku 08.29.2006 11:41 AM

Some interesting takes on this:

This...

gmku 08.29.2006 11:42 AM

& this:

Pookie 08.29.2006 11:42 AM

I don't know. I think libel refers to published writing anyway. I don't know what published means in terms of the law. I suppose we're talking on here?

Either way, I think you're on to a winner here. Sue in an American court naturally, they'll be a lot tougher on him.

Then again, would you have to prove he wrote it...

Oh, it's all so complicated. Just say something really nasty to him and call it quits.

Toilet & Bowels 08.29.2006 11:43 AM

well i don't see how what i gain from reading your posts can be slanderous. and i haven't said anything that is posing as a statement of fact either.

gmku 08.29.2006 11:43 AM

Hmm... How much is the SY site worth? Maybe that's the real culprit here.

Nah, I couldn't do that to SY...

Yeah, yr last recommendation is probably easier and a lot more fun. I'll save up for something really nasty (and any suggestions are most welcome--PM me, people).

Oh really?Did you not just say on another thread that there is plenty of space in cyberspace and all that?Let's face it you can do fuck all about what people say on here. The huge majority of posters on this forum are younger than yourself so if the odd dumb comment or two pops up you just either ignore it or get on with it.Besides,if you have such issues with other posters why do you not contact the moderator?

gmku 08.29.2006 11:51 AM

So...

How young is too young anyway? 17? 13? 7? What's the cut-off point?
