music for young girls
i need to gatter a couple more suggestions,
what hippunkdanceelectronicindiewhatever music should i get? |
music for young girls? like kids? or like high school age? ior middle school age?
|
14 y.o.
|
man, we need more than that! what does she like? is she a miley cyrus girl? or does she think the gays in My Chemical Romance are cute? or does she like ballads?
|
let's just say i dont want her to listen an evanescence song again.
|
Get her the album "Bring it Back" by Mates of State.
I actually don't know how appealing they are to teenage girls as I don't actually know anyone other than myself who has heard of them or listens to them. Their music is very fun though in my opinion, and teenage girls love fun. Right? Anyway, I think they're great, and the closest thing to 14 y.o. girl music I listen to. They have to be a safe alternative to self-loathing emo music or unrealistically sweet High School Musical tunes though. "Bring it Back" is one of my favorite pop albums. The Sounds-possibly, some profanity, but catchy and poppy as all hell.
Daydream Nation or Murray Street might be good. Ramones-can't go wrong here Yeah Yeah Yeahs- a lot of people here might disagree. Or you could always go with a more "classical" education based on The Beatles and/or Joni Mitchell. |
Hannah Montana ?
|
Get her Liz Phair, Even Joy Division, Early Hole, of course The Cure. I also agree with YYY's.
|
I agree with Joy Division, Hole, The Cure. (although I honestly can't imagine many teenage girls genuinely wanting to listen to this stuff)
I do not agree with Phair or YYYs. |
Well from him telling she doesn't want her to listen to evanescence I thought those two would be good choices. Especially since they are more commercially out there.
|
Yes I suppose you're right. I personally am not into the music of Liz Phair or YYYs... but I imagine I would choose to listen to them on a 24 hour loop if Evanescence was the alternative. :)
|
She must know the truth about deevolution.

|
Nirvana was the first good band I went ga ga for.
|
The Dwarves - Blood, Guts & Pussy and SugarFix...?
|
BYOP, if she likes to PARTY!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

L7 and Bikini Kill
How about some Sleater-Kinney? The Evens would be great. Siouxsie & the Banshees Patti Smith! PJ Harvey And just for fun, give her Trout Mask Replica. They don't have to be all girl bands do they? Because you can give her some other cool stuff... Cat Stevens Elliott Smith Jeff Buckley John Frusciante Josh Klinghoffer Funkadelic A Tribe Called Quest (I Left My Wallet In El Segundo) When I was a little younger then that, I listened to a ton of Nirvana, some Zeppelin, and whenever I was on an airplane for some weird reason, I would listen to The Verve (Urban Hymns) and Fatboy Slim. When I was 14, I really got into The Red Hot Chili Peppers which helped influence my love of funk music. |
The peppers fuckin rock (i couldnt resist). how could anyone not like them?
BootsyGraham im assuming you play bass right? (me too brotha 4L) |
![]() it's a Christian album, so its safe :) |
I second The Cure, Joy Division and Jeff Buckley.
Sonic Youth (Dirty or EJST&NS to begin with) Radiohead (OK computer especially) Bauhaus Neil Young Bowie Early Pink Floyd Björk |
Yes, early floyd. singles. see emily play.
gold. |
Deerhoof - "Friend Opportunity." Simply an amazing album on so many levels (and the fact that something played and sung with such child-like innocence and exhuberance could have deeper levels of meaning is in itself one of the levels).
|
stereolab
daisy chainsaw (fuck byop) numbers pixies greatest hits of indie compilations merzbow lightning bolt happy flowers whatever, just play happy joyful good music and the kids will reciprocate. they are probably gonna listen to the complete opposite you want them to when they hit 16 anyway... dont force the issue..... |
Ramones
Sex Pistols The Cure The Smiths Siouxsie & the Banshees Sonic Youth (I'd start at Sister) The Slits |
i'm imagining a sick image of a grown man in his forties playing stuff out of his truck out loud infront of a junior school and smileing very strangely while he watches young preteen girls approach his van to ask him what songs he is playing.
|
I don't think you still need this advice but I'll just post this shit anyway because I'm feeling nostalgic for my young teen days. I was once a 14 year-old girl (5 years ago, actually) so here are my recommendations:
I got into Sonic Youth when I was 14 and, at that time, I especially loved Confusion is Sex and their song "Starpower". I also got into the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Fever to Tell" (mostly because of their song "Date With the Night"), Sleater-Kinney, Dead Kennedys' "Fresh Fruit...", Radiohead, Interpol, The White Stripes, and I was obsessed with Nirvana and other good grunge. This was all after my nu-metal phase. For more contemporary stuff, maybe Vampire Weekend?? Shit, I dunno what popular things the kids are into these days. Sorry. Also, Pixies would be good; and some David Bowie. |
get her all the girl bands from back in the day.
babes in toyland, L7, hole, etc. maybe bikini kill |
the first bratmobile album
beat happening dl the sarah records discography off of me and have her listen to that love is all |
Either of these for adolescent girls.

Sorry, I didn't see your respone until just now. How'd you guess? Hahahaha... ;) The bass is awesome! |
Hmmm, If I were a young girl I would love anything by Stereolab, Flaming Lips and Sufjan Stevens.
|
luscious jacksons, nelly furtado
|
at 14 i was just getting in that whole Riot Grrrl scene.
I'd recommend Veruca Salt, and Sleater Kinney. |
For a real punky reggae party vibe, pick up the first Slits LP, "Cut". Lots of great tracks on there, plus a v nice cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".
