Get her the album "Bring it Back" by Mates of State.
I actually don't know how appealing they are to teenage girls as I don't actually know anyone other than myself who has heard of them or listens to them. Their music is very fun though in my opinion, and teenage girls love fun. Right? Anyway, I think they're great, and the closest thing to 14 y.o. girl music I listen to. They have to be a safe alternative to self-loathing emo music or unrealistically sweet High School Musical tunes though. "Bring it Back" is one of my favorite pop albums. The Sounds-possibly, some profanity, but catchy and poppy as all hell.
Daydream Nation or Murray Street might be good. Ramones-can't go wrong here Yeah Yeah Yeahs- a lot of people here might disagree. Or you could always go with a more "classical" education based on The Beatles and/or Joni Mitchell.

I agree with Joy Division, Hole, The Cure. (although I honestly can't imagine many teenage girls genuinely wanting to listen to this stuff)
I do not agree with Phair or YYYs. |

Well from him telling she doesn't want her to listen to evanescence I thought those two would be good choices. Especially since they are more commercially out there.

Yes I suppose you're right. I personally am not into the music of Liz Phair or YYYs... but I imagine I would choose to listen to them on a 24 hour loop if Evanescence was the alternative.
