Beastie Boys
CHECK YOUR HEAD was a really important record to me when I was younger. I stopped really following them after ILL COMMUNICATION/ROOT DOWN/IN SOUNDS FROM WAY OUT era. General thoughts?
|
Paul's Boutique rules.
|
hello nasty got me into them. i love that album. i then started listening to their greatest hits package and i started to backtrack.
they're really good |
check your head and illcommunication are essential I think. also like hello nasty, but to the 5 burroughs is the album I havent listen to much.
and they are fun live |
Ohman, I forgot about 5 BURROUGHS... I actually really liked that album but somehow forgot it even existed. I just picked up the live DVD over the weekend, but havent watched it yet. Sort of got me thinking about them again though.
|
I like MMM, and I think il communications is a more thought out version of check. there are some parallels especially the really good instrumentals...but alone sabotage was a blast even if it s one of their biggest hits

5 boroughs (sorry boroghs) is a great little album.... i love it, possibly my favoutrite b boys album since pauls boutique....

the in sound from way out.. talk about ripping off stereolab but thats another story!

I was very unimpressed with it myself, and it took me a while to find it so I was expecting a lot from it. Most of it is just extended instrumentals from other albums, maybe even all of it; I'm not to familiar with all of their stuff so I can't say. |
i started listening to 5 boroughs again and really like it.
Hello Nasty has got some wicked tracks on it too But they're a band that have lots of tunes i skip on most of their albums |
there is this track between the third and foruth one if I remmeber good enough, which sounds like a mexican something. I love it when the beat kicks in.
|
Ill Communication has so many far-out sounds on it, it's fantastic. They covered a lot of musical ground there and its still all cohesive as an album. The Mix-Up is great background music, it can be a little boring sometimes though. To The 5 Boroughs is pretty okay, some tracks are cheesy and disappointing though, the heavy beat in 'Ch-Check It Out' makes up for it.

PB through Ill Communication: Yes.
Anything else: Hell to the fuck no. |

i never thought about this, but maybe a little. my faves: 1. ill communication (very important album for me when i was young, also licensed to ill) 2. check yr head 3. hello nasty |
paul's botique is phenomenal. the production on that record is top notch. rivals even the rza and the bomb squad. ill communication is 75 percent really rad too, i like those two records quite a bit. check ur head is decent, other than that, not really into them.
they actually could qualify as a band where i like the sounds but cant stand the vocals. mike d's voice piiiiisssssseeeeeessssssss me off. but i loooovvvvveeeeee the dust brothers production. |
They rule! I own that Sounds of Science Anthology: all tracks are pure bliss

Yeah, well they were both (consciously and point-blank OBVIOUSLY) ripping off Gershon Kingsley. Hilarious seeing someone defend Stereolab's originality; sure, they were great in the early to mid 90s, but let's face it, they are a pastiche band if there ever was one. "Hallo Gallo" anyone? ![]() |
I freally fucking liked Hello Nasty. it kicks major ass. The double gold colored vinyl is dope tooooo
|
3MC's & 1 DJ. Great fucking video

i've seen them 2 times live, good.

Dammmmn I'm having a Beastie day today. Get with it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F-Rsx4o7TA I'm looking around ebay for a VW medallion, I'm thinking of going to a new year's costume party as Mike D. I'm not stealing one because stealing is naughty. |

man, i wasnt defending the labs originality, it was a tongue in cheek comment about a blatant tongue in cheek rip off... of course both bands are pastiche to be honest but they are so damn good at it! and im sure the in sound phrase dates right the way back even before the kingsley record! |
![]() Ahh yeah |
I don't like early BBoyz Paul's Boutique and before...
I like Check yr head, Ill com or even Hello Nasty |
The first time I saw them they were closing out a New Year's Eve show with the Ramones in 1985
The next time was on the Licensed to Ill tour at the Capital Theater in Passaic. The bill was Murphy's Law, Public Enemy, and the Beastie Boys. The last time I saw them was on the Check Your Head tour with Rollins Band opening. Paul's Boutique is easily their best album. I also like a lot of the weird shit extras that they throw onto their CD Singles. |
Hello Nasty is severely underrated. that shit fucking PUMPS. especially the first LP of the double album.
|
Shit, why is there no love for Licensed To Ill? If ever there was a record that captures youthful excitement and lust for life it is that.
|
my favorite record is the cookie puss 12 inch. polly wog stew is my second favorite one.
