CHECK YOUR HEAD was a really important record to me when I was younger. I stopped really following them after ILL COMMUNICATION/ROOT DOWN/IN SOUNDS FROM WAY OUT era. General thoughts?

Ohman, I forgot about 5 BURROUGHS... I actually really liked that album but somehow forgot it even existed. I just picked up the live DVD over the weekend, but havent watched it yet. Sort of got me thinking about them again though.

I like MMM, and I think il communications is a more thought out version of check. there are some parallels especially the really good instrumentals...but alone sabotage was a blast even if it s one of their biggest hits

I was very unimpressed with it myself, and it took me a while to find it so I was expecting a lot from it. Most of it is just extended instrumentals from other albums, maybe even all of it; I'm not to familiar with all of their stuff so I can't say.

Ill Communication has so many far-out sounds on it, it's fantastic. They covered a lot of musical ground there and its still all cohesive as an album. The Mix-Up is great background music, it can be a little boring sometimes though. To The 5 Boroughs is pretty okay, some tracks are cheesy and disappointing though, the heavy beat in 'Ch-Check It Out' makes up for it.

paul's botique is phenomenal. the production on that record is top notch. rivals even the rza and the bomb squad. ill communication is 75 percent really rad too, i like those two records quite a bit. check ur head is decent, other than that, not really into them.
they actually could qualify as a band where i like the sounds but cant stand the vocals. mike d's voice piiiiisssssseeeeeessssssss me off. but i loooovvvvveeeeee the dust brothers production.

Yeah, well they were both (consciously and point-blank OBVIOUSLY) ripping off Gershon Kingsley. Hilarious seeing someone defend Stereolab's originality; sure, they were great in the early to mid 90s, but let's face it, they are a pastiche band if there ever was one. "Hallo Gallo" anyone? |
