has anyone seen this film? its pretty cool, gives a history and analysis of the icelandic music scene. shows you some cool sigur ros and bjork live footage, and clips of strange punk bands from teh 80s playing along to recitals by pagan chiefs reading norse poetry. quite enjoyable, and shows off some of the highlights (and definite lowlights) of the scene. great iceberg footage as well.

I saw it last month during some documentary festival. It is brilliant!!! Before seeing it I knew only few iclandic bands such as sigur ros, sugarcubes, mum, gus gus and bjork. Now, becouse of it, I have totally diffrent aspect and interst for iclandic music; I find it extremly interesting, specific and bloody fascinating and HARD to find...! I thing they, mostly becouse sigur ros and bjork, made one great brand for Iceland. They have this wierd sound and way of singing that is so special and they manage to penetrate with it into every genre of music. While listening to their jazz or "pop" artists, you can still hear that cold, echoy, mystic sound. Screaming masterpiece made me instant admirer!

Yeah...I also saw this at a film festival last year. It was OK but, as you said Dan, some definite lowlights. Some of the bands featured were pretty awful. my favourite bit is the song Mum do (I think) where theu are bowing metal and stuff. It think they do it with another band, possibly Slowblow, but I'm not quite sure.

yeh mum were amazing. i still think sigur ros stole the show however. both the live pieces they showed them playing were astounding. but what the hell was with that band playing in the presidents house?!? they were godawful!!

I'd like to see this... but Sigur Ros make my face curl. Perhaps they could do an edited version for people like me?

I've heard two songs of sigur ros (see, I'm that hip).
In the first time it brought to my mind this incredibly lame "soundscapes for working environments" cd, that had these ambient "songs" for efficient working and relaxation and whatnot. I have friends who are all over this band. |
