It is the 5th of may, which means it's Cinco De Mayo.
I have no clue as to what the significance of this day is, except that it has something to do with a Mexico winning a battle in the 1800s. Happy Cinco De Mayo, Mexican boardies! |

It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over the French occupational forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
And a song by Liz Phair. |

ha ha yes. funny thing is, it's not a big day in mexico, but mexican-americans have turned it ito a huge "mexican pride" day, and then the bars don't mind the business it brings, which in my mind is a mockery of mexican culture, but then american commerce always manages to turn everything into a saleable joke, like disney history. so, let's drink to that. actually im supposed to go to a 5 de mayo party... |

Many people don't realize that it's not their independence day. They just beat Napoleon.

jimador is probably the best, but what do i know? i don't like tequila.
there's a battle reenactment and there's good business for bars, but it's not that big; not as big as september 15 (independence day) anyway. i'll report from the bar, might down a few brewskis today. |

i've actually met John Paul DeJoria at my friends christmas party last year. They get cases of Patron all the time for free (which we always steal, har har har). |
