for a collegiate journalism conference. my mornings and afternoons will be spent in writing courses and sight seeing, but i'll have nights free. i'll be there for four days.
i'm going to see Boris on the 26th, but i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on record or book stores worth checking out? or anything else i might find interesting?

lucky fucker check out the rocknroll hotel, black cat & 930 club record stores-- not really-- the good ones are in baltimore. there's a used cd store in adams morgan, and there is always some kind of record store on another opening on 18th street but they usually don't last--look down towards the basements. there's melody records i guess but that caters to an eclectic clientele. there was one in georgetown that's more about manic panic products than records per se. just take the commuter traint to baltimore for like $5 and see for bookstores, check out Second Story on 20th & P in dupont circle, kramerbooks just north of dupont, chapters on 11th adn E, and politics & prose on... let me think.. 50th block of connecticut avenue i think. all more or less accessible by metro (you'll have to walk a bit for politics & prose but dont be a wuss). there are also your regular chains (borders, b&n, etc), and the b&n in georgetown has a nice cafe w/ a mural & the occasionally hot georgetown students. for book lovers, check out the library of congress. it's best to live there & get your own research shelf, but just go take a look at that place & shed a tear for me. there is good theatre in the city, from studio theatre to arena stage, the shakespeare theatre (just moved i think) to the warehouse on 7th. what else do you want? duck soup at full kee? kebabs at moby dick? french steaks at les halles? vegan food at the udupi palace? burgers at five guys? say it. say it. say it!!!! |
