the microphones - the glow, pt. 2 "k records" 2001 It took me awhile to really get into this album. At first, I was in love with the first song but the rest seemed very dull and bland. However as the months passed, I grew more accustomed to the rest of the album. There are certain times during music listening where something just 'clicks', this happened to me with this album. I was laying in my bed falling asleep to the album and I felt myself becoming more and more enchanted by it. An easy way to classify this album would be a lo-fi indie folk record. However a quick genre description does not summarise this truly unique record. Phil Elverum might be one of this generation's greatest songwriters; his word delivery and unique melodies are truly astounding. Anyone looking for a very atmospheric touching record should look here. Also check out other Microphones albums... they're all good! I actually think you should buy the album but for the people suffering the credit crunch: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=56G5ZS5R and the recently reissued deluxe edition: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SDYDMDIZ |

As good as this album is, I've always felt that IT WAS HOT WE STAYED IN THE WATER is even better. Not to knock this one by any means. Most shit that Phil Elverum puts out is awesome.

Agreed, whole-heartedly. Luckily I had LOST WISDOM and DAWN on my PSP so I listened on my commute home. Was definitely in the mood. Anyone have a copy of 11 OLD SONGS OF MOUNT EERIE by the way? That's the casio album, and I need to find that one. |
