Which venue do you want me to put on the list? I would pick, but that is a tough decision here 'cuz you've listed some interesting venues.

Hehe, I'll leave it to your discretion. But, in all honesty, SY are never going to play Koko or the Spitz...too small, too jazzy in the case of the Spitz. They're probably not going to play the Barbican (aha! I remembered!) or the Royal Festival hall... they're most likely to play Brixton academy or possibly Islington academy.

Oh shit, Ifor Bach... that would be great. Again, would never happen, but that would be most excellent.

Well, I'll leave that one up there for the pure sentiment of it never going to happen.
This is probably the best of the threads I have made so far. I'm having fun w/ it. Aren't you?

The last time I saw Sonic Youth in London they played the Shepherds Bush Empire. A venue that I don't like and wouldn't want to see them at again. (The sound is alright, but I have NEVER had a good view of anything at that place. And the toilets are evil.)

Yeah the Recher is nice and is soooo easy to get to. I saw SY there in 2002. They opened with Candle and went right into Kissability. They started the encore by playing Calling All Girls!!!......one of my favorite SY shows

Brixton Academy mid-size?? It's fucking massive...
I also liked the Scala on the one occaision that I visited.... Clwb Ifor Bach is waaaayyy too small for Sonic Youth though...especially the downstairs bit which is the best bit because there isn't any stage. |

It's a big old theatre. Theatres = mid-size. Arenas = fucking massive. The London Arena, Earl's Court, Wembley are fucking massive (and awful). Brixton is, what, 4,000-5,000 capacity? Totally mid. |

OK, good point. Compared to an arena it is mid size. But it's massive for the sort of places that I would go to. I don't think I'd even bother going to see Sonic Youth if they played an arena. It would be the most hellish thing ever.

Any venue that holds more than 1,000 is unbearably large for me, unless it's a classical venue. Ideally, venues would all be 50-100 capacity, although some of the best gigs I've seen have been in the company of less than 20 people.

The Fox Theatre in Atlanta
Town Hall in NYC Higher Ground (the new one) Burlington Vt Wiltern Theatre Los Angeles those are all great 2000-5000 seat venues anyone been to these? Bklyn and Nyc have all these great nook and cranny places too, all the above are big time, ornate and jazzy. Hell even the Roxy in Atlanta is nice. The GA Theatre in Athens, great. Flynn in VT. The 40 Watt in Athens is historic as is the Kniiting Factory in nyc, Tonic is good when its seated other wise it can get messy. Irving Plaza has one of the worst balconies in rock...... |

Yeah. Arena shows are about as worthwhile as shows in aircraft hangars. (That is.. not.) There are a few "bigger" bands that I like that I actively wish bad sales figures upon just so the only opportunity I get to see them won't be at somewhere like the fucking London Arena... REM, for example. Loved them since I was little, but I'm SO GLAD they don't sell well anymore. 1995- Milton Keynes Bowl, 1998- Earl's Court, 2003-Brixton Academy, 2005-Hammersmith Apollo.. they're gradually climbing back down the ladder. Give them a few years they'll be back at the 12 Bar Club where they belong. |

The Fox Theatre makes most places look "ghetto". That place was built pre depression and has clouds that move across the ceiling. Ever been in the elevator? I like the Roxy for personal reasons and that it has great sound. |

I really like Mississippi Nights in St. Louis. I've only been there a handful of times, but I like the way the place is set up, and one of my most enjoyable concert experiences (that being The Knitters/7 Shot Screamers show) was there.
