The idea of classical and jazz being the only "real music" is as hopelessly archaic and close-minded as the idea that Romantic-era paintings are "real art" whereas Abstraction, Collage, and Dada are not.

One takes skill and practice; the other takes talent and creativity.

In my experience, a note has no interest in itself:it makes sense only by the one that comes before, after or at the same time.
Maybe those two notes are tremendous to you: good for you.
Some bands are even more minimalist, like Cypress Hill, who only use one note, but I won't put a link now, cause I'm listening to Cows.

Look,

First of all, I want to congratulate you on liking the Cows because they're an awesome band (unless you're talking about actually listening to bovines outside your window or something)

Second of all, you're being stupid. What is Hip Hop if not music? Urban poetry isn't a good description because that only applies to the vocal part, which is already called rap. Hip Hop isn't traditional music, true, but neither was rock music or even noise rock when it first appeared, and there were plenty of narrow-minded forgotten fools saying that they weren't music for whatever stupid reason they could come up with, even though in retrospect we can easily see that they were wrong. Why don't you just quit fighting against the tide? There's no point and you won't win.

Okay, let me rephrase that.

Classical and jazz require more devotion to technique, whereas just about any idiot can plug in an electric guitar and come up with something.

Hell, you don't have to even know how to fret and you can play the intro to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters", so long as you know which strings to pick.

This is hilarious. There's a scissor shock song called "proud of white blood cells" and I just kinda improvised the whole thing and threw shit on top, so after the opening riff, I go into this small section where I finger pick the open lowest string, then the 3rd to highest, 2nd to highest, highest, then 2nd to highest again. I think the guitar was tuned to open d. I finished the song and I listened back and I was like "hmm." And I realized I'd just sorta played the beginning of nothing else matters without thinking about it. Oh well. I didn't go back and cahnge it.

Alright I am a Clarinet girl and have been since 6th grade. So I have had to play my share of classical. The most enjoyable songs to me were the simple classics. Paca Bell's Cannon ( I know I slaughtered that spelling don't feel like google) Moonlight Sonata...so easy a beginner can play them....but it takes skill to make simple notes and melodies actually sound good. Same goes with an electric. Just because it is simple does not mean that there is no technique, phrasing, rythym..blah..blah..blah
