— Black Flag matters.
— Black Sabbath matters (first four albums for me, anyway). — ★ matters. Black Tie White Noise not so much, but it has its moments. — Big Black matters. — "Big Black Car" matters. — "Black Maria" matters. "Big Black Mariah" matters bigger. — The Black Album matters. The Black Album doesn't matter. — "Black" not only doesn't matter but is the kind of douchebag power ballad "grunge" bands were supposed to destroy. Clearly the band responsible for such wretched atrocity didn't get the memo. — The Black Keys don't matter. — Black Lips, Black Angels, never heard those people. — "Blackbird" matters. Bach rip-off, but still. The Brokeback Mountain score is then a rip-off of a rip-off - and it won a fuckin' Oscar. Fuckers. — Black Vomit matters. — The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady matters. — Black metal doesn't matter. It's silly and boring. Sorry, Norway!

What about The Black Album? You're probably gonna say no, doesn't matter, but that's incorrect. Black Bug matters, but apparently only to me and, like, five other people, half of whom ARE Black Bug. "Black Angel Death Song" totally matters. |

Black Lips are really good, dude. And what about Black Dice? Do they still matter? I think they do.

the sense of meaningfulness of this thread seems to be burried in a black hole.

Oh Black Dice will always matter, even if they stop mattering actively... their first two records alone make them eternal, um, matterers. Moreover, Eric Copeland matters like crazy. Just dropped a new album, excellent as always, jangly as hell. Check it. I'm not sure Black Moth Super Rainbow matters anymore. In fact I'm, like, 100% certain they don't, but they had their moments. Black Hipppy matters. Black Panther seems to matter a lot lately. Not a fan myself, but, y'know.... stuff. |

Haha! Guess what else totally matters? The Black Rider. Yeah. I know you're gonna wish you'd mentioned that one too. Black Milk matters. Black Thought matters (in varying degrees, based on what mode the Roots are in.) Mos Def & Talib Kweli are BLACK STAR matters like crazy. Black Adam doesn't matter. Neither does Shazaam!, but that's neither here nor there. Black Sheep and Black Moon both matter. Call me a dinosaur, but Wolf in Sheep's Clothing and Enta Da Stage are two of my favorite early '90s hip-hop records. "Black Skinhead" matters like a muh. Black Noise matters. Black holes matter. White Men Are Black Men Too matters. Totally underrated album. One of the best of 2015. Black Sea matters, don't tell me that shit doesn't matter. |

If he brings us more cool solo stuff, sure. The current Pixies are the definition of irrelevance.

respectfully disagree, sir. On the basis that the notion of "relevance" is a useless invention of music journalism. |

OK, forget that specific term —which, yes, has been historically overused by critics who dismiss music that isn't being made by the latest shiny model they're enthralled by— and let's just say that during the, um, "reunion decade" they basically sleepwalked through their back catalog, and that the disgraceful new material after that only made things worse.

I thought Indie Cindy was a good rock album, not a million miles away from Trompe in conception. I think they played it too safe with the production and performances, and there were probably 4 or so songs that would have been better on a Frank Black live-to-tape album. The sad thing about the whole reunion decade that you mention, is that if they were able to make an album with the best tracks from Bluefinger, Sevenfingers, Nonstoerotik (songs Charles was probably hoping would be on the new Pixies album) Indie Cindy and even Mountain Battles it would have certainly been more worthy of their back catalogue... Imagine: Captain Pasty Lake of Sin Threshold Apprehension Bagboy When They Come To Murder Me Test Pilot Blues What Goes Boom Walk It Off (the Kim vocal track) Dead Man's Curve I Sent Away Magdalena 318 Bang On (with a screamy Black Francis vocal double with Kim) |

Here in Australia we obviously have strict gun controls and a "general" Police culture which leans less towards outright violence and openly discriminatory behaviour... yet we still manage to have an issue somewhat similar
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abor...ths_in_custody Yes I know this is not music discussion... soz |

Difference: there was a "Royal Commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody" created nearly 30 years ago in Australia. A government investigation into the issue. That's what we need. Black people have been dying at the hands of white people for centuries. We abolished slavery, sure, but half the nation still wants to fly the goddamn confederate flag, and the social, psycho-social, institutional and cultural cards are still stacked against people of color. This is a fact that people try to deny or underplay (like global warming... seriously), and the U.S. Government is not doing its part to set things right. Obama came in and the good he did manage to accomplish was too little and too late. Now people are starting to adopt a "by any means necessary" approach. Return shots were fired, and cops were killed in Dallas, and they were mourned by the nation, while the THOUSANDS of minorities hauled off in body bags barely phases the average white middle American voter. I'm not trying to play the pain game here. I just think your country appears to have more of a collective conscience about these issues. The gun control policies in Australia are decades if not centuries from even being possible here in the U.S. Really, I don't feel like I'm exaggerating, given immeasurable political influence and lobbying power of the NRA. It saddens me to read of the treatment to Aboriginal people in Australia, but I believe there is probably more accountability in you country than there is in ours. I mean, I hope that's the case anyway. |
