Been sorting out my records and i've found a record by a band called Beatglider who are an exact copy of Pavement (imagine the fun) and they have song that is ok and would fool you big time. The whole album, down to the photographs is basically Pavement relocated in Leicester.

The Horrors are pretty much a paint by numbers version of the Birthday Party.
and let's not get into all the pop punk bands that copied the Descendents.

Are bands allowed to sue other bands that are obviously imitations?

Im not that keen on the horrors but in their defense 'This is your.... my bloody valentine' by my bloody valentine was a blatent rip-off of the birthday party and had endless 'Junkyard" overtones.
and they went on to become something rather special, and one of the most original bands of the last 25 years. |

Damn, I was going to mention them, and once again you beat me to it! Of course, I doubt even on this board many people remember the Dustdevils. You had to be listening to college stations that played Sonic Youth in the '80s to come across them, I think. They weren't awful or anything, but yeah, they were kind of like Sonic Youth with maybe a touch of Live Skull to make them somehow less accessible without being any noisier. |

Datblygu = The Fall. Except they do it in Welsh. And are also very good.

I've been so curious to hear the Dustdevils...
I think that Spell sounds pretty Sonic Youth-ish too.

FUN is basically a rapeman / shellac rip off band. But they're pretty fucking great at what they do. The band just toured US and recorded an album with albini, which supposedly sounds more like the jesus lizard this time.

I don't know. Someone posted a video of them once (was it you?) and I thought the video looked very much like the Birthday Party live, but I still haven't heard any original songs of theirs. I can't really imagine, going from that video alone, that they could have the Birthday Party pegged in any way.
