" Mexican Sen. Jorge Zermeno, a member of Fox's National Action Party, spoke twice in support of decriminalization before the Senate's 53-26 vote Friday shortly after midnight"..

i believe it is official. Fox just has to sign.

yr retarded! have you even looked at the numbers?

mexico has yet too, but will more then likely legalize possession of

.5 grams of cocaine
.5 grams of heroin
.25 grams of speed
5 grams of weed
.00025 grams of LSD
.07 grams of PCP
.25 grams of dried mushrooms
2.2 lbs of peyote (he it is mexico after all)

that is hardly the numbers which will allow a flood of drug trafficing. further, it is still illegal to traffic or sell any of these drugs in Mexico, it is just legal to possess such quantities for "personal use".

The senate has indeed voted on and passed the bill. It is sitting on Fox's desk awaiting his signature. Since he has given his support for the bill, it is likely that it will pass.

does it occur to u that by loosening drug laws it could be the start of the liberalization of drug use, drug laws, and drug trafficking as a whole? it ceratinly doesn't make one "retarded" to believe that..haha. actually, it's a fact that drug use and trafficking will go up b/c of this. haha. maybe u don't care.

I don't really see the validity to this argument. Is it necessarily a fact that drug use will go up because drugs are illegal? I doubt it will have a large impact on the number of drug users at all. The idea that all of the sudden the demand for drugs will increase is a little far fetched. The people that want to do drugs do them, plain and simple. A person who was anti-drug before the law will not suddenly become a drug user because it's legal. Alcohol is legal and plenty of people choose not to drink.
Will trafficking necessarily go up? The police force isn't decreasing in size. Yet they don't have to get caught up in catching small time users and then tying up the judicial system by prosecuting them. They can use their resources more effectively to go after the supply of the drugs. The only way to win a drug war is to eradicate the supply because the demand will always exist. I'm not saying it's a winnable war, but that is the only way to win it.

the fact is people are gonna do these drugs, and in greater quantities, whether they're legal or not. The point of decriminilization in Mexico is so that their prison systems aren't as overcrowded with non-violent drug offenders us ours are in america. I think it's a good idea. PCP though? That's pretty heavy but whatever. Drug trafficking will continue anyway even if this wasn't the case. Does this mean that the governement is going to regulate it like you can go down to the corner store and buy some pcp. Sweet.

did it ever occur to you that drug laws are unconstitutional from any form of government, completely waste billions of dollars a year arresting and persecuting millions of petty users, and is a scapegoat for all of the ills of our society, in much the way immigrants are becoming that scapegoat in the eyes of good ol amerikkkan patriots, who associate patriotistm with words like wetback and nigger.

it is not a fact that drug traffic will increase, because Vicente Fox is on Bush's side of the fence in this regard, and he has been strengthening Mexican enforcement. the law does not affect selling or distribution, those laws remain the same. IT IS A FACT that if you legalize drugs, to eliminate the cartal/mafia trade that you are so affraid of. It is just a way for the Mexican legal system to reduce its burden, like the US should, which in some cases 60-75% of inmates in State and Federal prisons are in for drug crimes, often times repeat possession charges. now that is retarded! when you adjust for the proportion of people incarcerated and the success of the US Prison system and ending recidivism, the US spends more $$$ on prison then on schools! now that is retarded, but you my friend, for agreeing with them are close.
