Nothing expensive. I'd love a nice technics, but no way I'd get one.

What model?
I'd prefer something with all the features of an SL-1200 but cheaper. |

as in a hifi system?
you probably need a good amp and good speakers. marantz do decent amplifiers and they are not too expensive. for speakers - if you look around in hifi stores, and look at the ads, you might find some second hand bargains. i picked up a pair of gorgeous 12" by 20" 1977 tannoy speakers for £80 ($160). it seems that lots of silly people sell off their old hifi systems to make way for the digital revolution. you can get some amazing bargains. ![]() i play my marantz amplifier (PM4400 - should be about $200 new) through these and they sound just divine.

oh, sorry... then forget about it, since similar models probably would cost about the same or more. i'm not sure, but i guess that if you want something like a sl 1200, you wont find bargains, i'm afraid, and price difference wont worth it. |

Looks like the 1600MKII is a good value.
I'll probably ask for that and then have my Dad look around for used stereo equipment. Even if I don't get the best stereo equipment, I can upgrade later. The important part it the turntable. I'm tired of garage sale POS turntables. |

There's a nice Crosley turntable for cheap on craigslist that I might pick up.
