Californians: what do you think of it? What do you think of the people opposing it and their arguments?
Other Americans: would you be open to more high-speed rail infrastructure?

I totally want it to be built. It'd be pretty sick, I do believe.

LA to San Fran in 2 and half hours? Sweet.

it sounds pretty destined to collapse into itself as soon as the next earthquake hits, but when you've got that much money and an overly high population, why not go for it.

Let us hope I'm on it when the earthquake hits. Consider it population control.

It would be awesome. I could get from Riverside to San Fran in 3hrs for @ $60. http://www.cahighspeedrail.ca.gov/

BUT... The most current estimated cost to build the 800-mile system is about $45 billion.

Hasn't been a problem here in Japan, which is every bit as earthquakey as California.

Nope, but I find their lack of rail interesting (ours too for that matter). And are you stalking my posts?

I guess.. I've no idea about whether there have been major rail disasters associated with earthquakes in japan, maybe? maybe not..

The lack of a good train infrastructure (which we used to have) is one of the things that has really hurt america.

I would love to have a high-speed rail going all over the country.

Too bad that will never ever happen, ever.

Thank god Scotland has a good rail system.

I only use it to go into town though, which I never do unless I'm going record hunting or whatever.

I think that a highspeed rail is an absolute waste in spending on cali's public transportation infrastructure.

Cali needs to put thousands and thousands of more buses on the streets, and build up more extensive coverage of light rail networks, expanding the existing systems. Essentially the entire state needs to develop its public transportation to the par level of downtown san francisco, and much more in fact, to cripple and destroy the planet threatening car culture that is California.

This high speed rail is an absolute waste, it is not the first step, should be the last. Cali to SF is already served with a proper highway system and also a well-connected network of local shuttle flights.

We don't need to get to SF from LA on a train in two hours, the airplane already takes care of that for us. We in LA need to get from Southgate to Downtown in less than two hours!
