???

I have always used Digitech multi-effects, they are decent sound for the price, wide range of effects etc etc..

but Digitech has this stupid effect, the Auto-Ya-Ya which sounds like a voice going "yah-yah-yah" to the guitar signal.. the fucking thing is entirely unmusical and I have never figured out what to do with it.

The only bands I have heard use it to any good is RATM (it is Tom Morello fav) on Battle For Los Angeles (Calm Like a Bomband TOOL on 10,000 Days ( Vicarious [probably the most effective use of the Auto-Ya-Ya i have heard yet..] )

any other good demonstrations of this effect y'all know of?

no, thats an envelope filter (as used commonly by Hendrix or Jerry Garcia) also called an 'auto-wah'

the auto-ya-ya from digitech is the same kind of thing, but it doesn't pick up on the striking dynamics as an envelope filter. It strictly modulates the notes being played themselves.

but I can't see anything musical about it. The Envelope Filter I use constantly (after all I am a deadhead) and I am in love with it for Reggae lead guitar, I only use my 'wah' pedal on reggae rhythms to add to the 'ka-chank' melody (the wah adds a kind of swooshing sound) but the Auto-Ya-Ya is always pointless to me..

That guitar solo on TOOL "vicarious" is the only true musical thing I have heard, and it just sounds like a distorted human voice..

I had a digitech bass synth pedal with that stupid sound...sounds like some shit Korn or Limp Bizkit would use.

I created an account just to respond to this thread. Check out Buckethead's "Buried Deep Stay Buried Still." Great use of a yaya in the main rhythm riff.

You're a deadhead? I didn't know that. I knew you were a "card carrying Rastafari" and an OG gangsta rap fiend, but I didnt think anyone on SYG was very into the Dead.

I wouldn't call myself a deadhead per se, but I have a 120 cd wallet of shows (most of them just CD-R's, few true boots) and their studio albums.

Cool. This is a good thing.

Cool. This is a good thing.

I dabble. Somewhere a long way back I did a longish post comparing and contrasting Dark Star and The Diamond Sea, and fantasizing about a Star/Sea supermix ala Greyfolded. I tend to concentrate on late 60's through early 70's and have only just recently aquired a taste for other Dead eras. I was excited to see that Martin Scorsese is exec producing a Dead rock doc: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...icle-1.1985857
I can be of no help with your tasteful auto-ya-ya quest.
