Is punk dead? If punkis dead, when did it die, and what was the final true punk record? Did all punk end when post-punk started? Is there an accepted date of punk's death? I don't know, I just wondered.

I believe 1991 is considered the year punk broke. I suppose breaking is sort of like dying...

When I was growing up (and, granted, I had a rather happy and sheltered childhood and though 'punk' meant no more than rotten wood), I was totally unaware of punk. Therefore I later assumed that everything post-1978 or whatever was 'post-punk'.
What specifically happened in 1991 that was considered to be 'the moment', or whatever?

A movie by that name was made. I think that's it.
But I really don't consider it to be dead at all. It just sucks now. |
